All ActivityMost RecentMost LikesSolutionsBattery not charging from the truckCurrently in Costa Rica and the house battery (AGM deep cycle) is not getting enough charge to last through the night. I have a 135w solar charging it through the day but only getting a reading of 12.15 from the terminals. With the car running, this does not change. My understanding is that if the truck (F350) was pushing current through to charge the battery then it should read around 13.5 - 14.2. Took it to a battery fellow here and he seems to think the battery is ok, just not getting a full charge. It has enough to work the lights at night but by morning we are in trouble. This has only been a recent development and I drive on some terrible roads. The camper is a Lance 1010. I need some pretty urgent help as getting RV repair down here is pretty tough and not many places to plug in overnight. Thanksgas smell on fridge cycleI have a lance 1010 t/c and have been hitting some pretty bumpy roads here in central america. recently i have been noticing a pronounced smell at the start of the cooling cycle, similar to the odour when gas ignites. Yes, i know that this makes sense but i can really notice it more lately. the unit is still keeping temp and it is in operation continuously. we have also start using the higher propanol blend common down here.any ideas?Re: Need th stop at Km21 Nogales?OK, so just a quick update on the Nogales crossing with a pre-organised 10 year TIP for a truck camper. We crossed and first were stopped by customs just across the border looking for the usual contraband. Carried on to KM21 and stopped first to the immigration office for the FMM. Then to the bank to pay for it. Next was the aduana. I showed then my documentation, the window sticker that had been mailed to me and they showed me the door, not interested as their work had been done. During the application process they had charged my cc and had a copy of my passport. There was not a problem with the vehicle being a truck camper, why would they, they have an option on their self service website with this as an option. The VIN was for the truck which is now classified as an RV as far as the aduana are concerned. I did remove the jacks before crossing in case there were questions. 3 days later we were stopped by the Federales and they asked to see my paperwork which they duly inspected and cross checked with the vehicle particulars. No problem from them whatsoever. The only question that remains is that I saw mentioned while crossing the border that the TIP last only as long as the owners FMM. We plan to leave the vehicle in Mex while visiting Cuba in November, upon our arrival back to Mex we will be issued with another FMM so time will tell. Thanks for all your responses, for me, I would recommend the internet option to get your TIP, saved hassle. Having said that, the Nogales border was one of the easiest land borders with a vehicle I have ever crossed, and I have crossed many!Any websites good to track Mexican road conditions/closures?We are heading down in the next couple of days and cannot postpone the journey, final destination near Acapulco. There looks to be some weather effecting the western side of the country so I would like to keep track of the road conditions/closures. Any recommendations folks? CheersNeed th stop at Km21 Nogales?Ok, so I have my 10 year TIP for the truck camper via online and post. I needed to specify which crossing I would be using and nominated Nogales. So do I need to stop there on the way through or can I bypass this piece of Mexican headache? CheersLewis and Lewis as insurers. Yes or No?I am getting insurance for the truck camper (liability only) for a 6 months trip through Mexico. I have looked at the options and these guys seem fine, and cheap, any reason not to go with them. I don't run US insurance when out of the country (Australian D/L = stupid high premiums). Also, there seems to be no difference between registering as a truck with x value vs rv with x value and what do the Mexican authorities classify a truck camper as anyway (My TIP is for 10 years) CheersRe: How much ProflexCheers Guys, ordered 6 tubes of proflex and have the tools ready to go. See you in Mexico! CheersHow much ProflexHeading down to house sit in Mexico and plan to go over the truck camper (Lance 1185) and re-do all the seams / joins in between coronas. Therefore I am trying to stock up before leaving and would like an estimate on how many tubes I might need to compete the job. Also I had planned to do the roof with Proflex but read that Dicor might be better for this. Thanks, leaving in a week and where is the best place to buy these items from?Looking for a 19.5" single as a sparePer Forum rules: You may not use the Open Roads Forum for "For Sale" or "Wanted" posts. Wayne ModeratorRe: Down to Panama and back, TIP questions.OK, so whether I can get a 10 year or a 180 day TIP is something I will report back on as the adventure unfolds. I am an optimist! Two questions remain for my planning. Can a Mexican TIP be renewed simply by departing and returning within a day or so? And what about the countries further south? What of the restrictions concerning renewal and extension there? Anyone been there and back? Cheers
