I'm just curious if any of these events will be planned in New England in the future?Re: Good Sam Chapter Camping tenbear wrote: frano wrote: tenbear wrote: The chapter we are in, here in Northern Vermont schedules 7 campouts, April thru October, usually in full service campgrounds. A problem we run into, especially during the summer months, is that members who register late may find themselves without sewer hookups. Campgrounds will hold a block of sites for us up until a certain date then they release them for general use. Our chapter has been growing and it is feared that we will have a more difficult time finding CGs willing to hold enough sites for us. Time will tell. We now have about 40 member rigs but less than half attend our campouts. Your problems may be a matter of chapter size. Our State Samboree is held in a fairground and we only have electric hookups, no AC allowed, but that is not usually a problem here in the frozen north. My wife suggests you attend more out of state samborees and talk to their members. Yes, we have been doing what your Wife suggests. While at the MA Samboree, we chatted with the Vermont State Director and he spoke of a chapter in Northern VT that would be a good match for what we're looking for (he was likely referring to your chapter). Unfortunately, we're too far apart but we have not given up on Good Sam yet. Our next mission is to explore NY since we're close to their border also. We wold love to see you at the Vermont State Samboree. Here is a link to their web site. Thanks, we would like to meet you folks also but that's the same weekend as the campout we're hosting in Pownal, VT.Re: Good Sam Chapter Camping tenbear wrote: The chapter we are in, here in Northern Vermont schedules 7 campouts, April thru October, usually in full service campgrounds. Have you ever tried to reserve 300 campsites for a Samboree? How about 20 sites for a chapter camp out? It isn't easy. We often hear complaints on here about the difficulty of getting one site. Imagine your wagon master trying to reserve 20 sites all together. Since you are already a chapter member, why not become an officer and contribute to the direction of the chapter? I have served in several positions and the ones with the most complaints are also the ones unwilling to serve and to work. X2 Actually my Wife and I are hosting a club campout in August and have arranged for full service sites for those that want them, so we know about getting involved. We came from a RV brand club (before buying this other brand) that would work with campgrounds and would save 50 full service sites for their rallies. Samborees with 200 plus rigs are another story, but finding campgrounds that can cater to 20 full service sites is possible, at least in New England.Good Sam Chapter CampingMy Wife and I belong to a MA Good Sam Chapter and have checked out several other chapters, both in MA and surrounding states. We have also attended 2 local state Samborees along with a bunch of chapter outings and we're wondering, with today's modern trailers with all their features, why the Good Sam chapters seem to camp in fairgrounds with hobo parking and campgrounds utilizing safari fields without all of today's amenities. We're having problems finding chapters that want to utilize all of the modern conveniences. We will be attending the MA/RI Good Sam Family Fest where we have reserved a full service site, but would like to attend other Good Sam events utilizing the conveniences. What's wrong with us?Re: Toyota Tacoma Owners: What do you haul?A few years ago we had a Tacoma V6 with tow package and towed a 2012 Heartland Edge 21 foot trailer weighing just under 4,000 pounds loaded. We used a WD hitch and had electric brakes on the trailer. In the hills of New England, the Tacoma did fine as far as power, braking, and comfort were concerned--expect about 10 MPG when towing though. Since the truck is light, when compared to 1/2 tons, it got a little spooky on very windy days at turnpike speeds and when big trucks passed us.Re: keystone vantage? Deal or not? Usually one of my jobs is washing dishes and I cannot imagine doing dishes in that little bowl. Other than that, it looks like a cool trailer. The sink is not as big as our double bowl at home but works well for camping. In addition, the faucet has a pull out hose for additional flexibility. We set up a small drain rack and mat for rinsing with the flexible hose that helps take the place of an additional bowl. Web pictures really do not do justice to the Vantage.Re: keystone vantage? Deal or not?We have a 2012 Vantage 32FLS that we absolutely love. It tows well behind our Tundra, is super comfortable, very residential, and well built. We had our roof seam recall done prior to delivery and have had no warranty issues with the trailer. We have given several "tours" while camping this season and folks are very impressed. A comment we've heard several times is "pictures on the web do not do justice to this trailer". If you can still find a discounted one, it's a deal of a lifetime. However, there is one issue for MA residents with the Vantage. MA has a yearly exise tax that is based on original MSRP so we paid tax on $20K more than we actually paid for the trailer--unfair, yes but that's how MA law is written!
