But in my research I have seen that many of the positions on Volunteer.gov. are actually paid a per diem. some as much as $42 per day. I talked to one set of CH's here in Alaska at a BLM campground who were making more than that. In other places I note there seems to be no compensation. But to your point: I don't think you should worry about what the rangers are doing. Just do your job, what you agreed to do and leave them to do what they want. If any one should question why something was left undone simply point out that it was not in your agreement to do that particular task.Re: Good Sam Logo Why the fear of questions? beemerphile1 wrote: qtla9111 wrote: I am surprised by the Admin and Moderator answers. There's seems to be some bias in both of their responses. The term moderator suggests that the person is exactly that and has no opinion on the subject. Administration pretty much says it all so that person's response is way out of hand also.... In essence I agree with your opinion except in the case of people that have a long history of criticizing and attacking. You know, people like the OP. It is certainly acceptable for the mods to have an opinion about a person that regularly flaunts rules and criticizes. I have posted more than 1100 posts here. (only 977 are showing today as some were archived recently) in all those posts I have had only a few, less than 5 removed. All of those were directed at changing the moderation practices and the one under discussion here. In all those posts perhaps only less than .02% have been critical of GSE. That does not make me a person who has a "long history of criticizing and attacking" as you put it. Unless of course you consider wielding logic and bringing facts to discussions, posing hard questions or simply disagreeing with you "attacking"Re: Good Sam Logo Why the fear of questions? westernrvparkowner wrote: I have been a critic of the logo for years. My objections have had nothing to do with the religious aspects of the logo, though I can surely see why it would be offensive to persons of non-Christian Faith. What I hate is the demographic it depicts. The guy is straight out of the 1950s. Does anyone believe he does not wear Bermuda shorts, white knee socks and black shoes? He is pretty much a Jackie Gleason Clone and probably threatens to "send his wife to the moon" if they have a disagreement. Got news for Good Sam corporate, that demographic is aging out. We don't agree often RVPO but you got the idea I was getting at. And you bring up an excellent perspective. That the RV Parks, regardless of who owns it, are saddled with this inappropriate logo on their buildings and ads. And you are dead right on the demographic issue. If you look at who is really RV'ing today the average age had decreased dramatically. this logo says nothing to those under,...lets say 80. This Logo MAY and I underline MAY have been appropriate in the 1950's but it has certainly lost all semblance of relativity since.Re: Good Sam Logo Why the fear of questions?I have been camping in Denali Natl Park for the last 6 days so I have been out of touch and could not respond here. It seems to me that posing a simple question about the logo should not have engendered such vitriol. Why? Since none of you know me nor have most of you read the entire body of my posts you don't realize that I am in fact not such a big critic of GSE. In fact one of my last posts was to praise a CW store. As for the logo the reason I posted this is the overtly religious nature of it and its truly dated appearance as another poster pointed out. The Logo itself does not Offend me. But as a businessman and someone who has spent a good deal of my career consulting with business on best practices of management and corporate identity I find this logo a complete anachronism that may speak well to a certain part of the population but actually is excluding in it's iconography most of the rest. Let me be clear This is not a religious issue. But only one of the appropriateness of the logo and whether or not a BETTER one wouldn't serve the company better with all consumers not just a particular group. I would also remind the admin who made such pointed and obviously heated remarks here to me that According to Marcus Lemonis "Any part of GSE is up for criticism on this forum" and "No post will be deleted for doing so". That has been written more than once here. I also had nothing to do with Putting the Logo on my screen name here in this forum. But I saw no reason to delete it either. The job of a good Logo is to engender a feeling of INCLUSIVENESS, instill confidence, communicate an Idea or a picture of the mind about what a company is. And maybe most importantly it should not offend. I would argue that the good Sam Logo Fails at most of these tests and is in need of updating and replacement. And let me clarify for those who never read my previous posts because they were deleted: They were NOT about religion. I did quote from the Good Sam Web page about the history of the Logo and I did explain it's iconography and state why I thought it inappropriate. I also called for a Poll of folks and what they thought about the logo and what if anything they might change it for. I know to the Admin and a moderator that was dangerous talk indeed. but it was really a viable question and appropriate for this site and within the bounds of what a post can be. I was very careful in my wording. And as a matter of course what cost CIVILITY? Nothing. Yet when I asked politely why the posts were deleted I received NO answer. And as you can see from the post above the admin obviously has strong feelings about me although he has never met me and I have never given Him/Her any reason to dislike me. I also find it amusing that so many just do not see the issue here. Politeness hurts no one and the Logo can be seen as exclusive to some and possibly off putting to others. Maybe even a bit offensive to a few. So why persist with it? I come at this from a business background, not a religious one. But in the posts above I see very little of what the Good Sam Logo actually represents from those who defend it so vociferously.Re: Good Sam Logo Why the fear of questions? Admin wrote: My primary responsibilities are with the RV forums. The "Dear Marcus" is handled by another entitity except for extreme cases and known problem members....... Attacking me will get you absolutely nowhere. Simple If you don't like the logo, don't look at it. If you don't like the logo, remove it from your preferences to show. If you don't like the logo, don't come here. Admin RV.net I have never attacked either an Admin or a moderator. Although it seems all too often difficult questions being posed are interpreted that way at times. Your response is a sad commentary when it seems that being an admin or a moderator one should at least feign a degree of balance and impartiality. But thanks for your response.A DEFINITIVE answer Please Alaska Route 11GS Road Service Please provide me with a DEFINITIVE answer on the following question: Should I need Road Side Assistance for a coverable incident such as a flat, tire replacement or breakdown on Alaska Stare Hwy 11 the Dalton Highway will good Sam cover this or not. And since there is only Cell service in very few places along the 415 miles of this road what should the procedure be for contacting GSE? Thank You GSRSA MemberRe: Generator that won't break the bank..The idea of generator "Hours" seem to be to congregate generator use at the same time and if you obey those hours everyone realizes that is the deal and they accept it, in my experience, with good grace. I only run my generator during the posted hours and then usually at or near midday (if possible)when many folks are away doing other things. I would strongly advise anyone looking for a generator to consider the Dual Fuel Champion RV Generators. Being abler to use propane means not having to carry a third fuel (if you have a diesel) or carry gas at all. No slop, no mess no gas fumes and it runs much cleaner and is better all around environmentally. Keep in mind Noise is not the only polluter.Re: Fairbanks RV Parks - Fail PA12DRVR wrote: Along those lines......Chena River "Campground" or whatever the correct name is (not to be confused with Chena River State Recreation area) underwent a change of management a few years back. It sounds (I hope) like it is a better place now. I made the mistake of routinely going there several times in years gone by and became intimately familiar with the reasons not to "camp" there over either 4th of July or Labor Day. Since I was always (back then) in a tent, "camping" usually involved staying awake most of the night waiting for the drunken locals to simmer down. I stayed there 5 nights and found it very quiet. And the young Campground host to be helpful and nice. We have had no problems there.Re: Fairbanks RV Parks - Fail alaskan-rver wrote: If you think those Fairbanks RV parks were sub-standard, what until you see what we lack in Anchorage. So far I have stayed in RV parks in Skagway, Valdez, ANCHORAGE, Homer, Soldotna, Wasilla and Fairbanks. And in several Alaska State Parks. I think I have seen enough to comment on this with some confidence. And I am not saying the parks are bad, but that they are definitely NOT good value and terribly overhyped in very misleading ads.Good Sam Logo Why the fear of questions? To the Admin: I have posted two posts about the Good Sam Logo and it's dated and questionable appropriateness as a symbol for GSE. In my latest post I asked for others opinions sort of a poll to see if others felt as I did. And asked for suggestions of new logos. Both posts were removed without comment or explanation. This is strange since Marcus Lemonis has stated here on this forum more than once that discussion of and criticism of ANY PART of the GSE companies or their vendors is not only OK but WELCOME. Now my posts were not overtly critical but they did question the appropriateness of the logo given it's history and it's iconography. So Please honor me with an explanation of why the moderators seem so fearful of this discussion. It seems to me that a new, sleek, modern logo that is inclusive and speaks to the larger mission of GSE would be a good thing. Every company updates their logos as time goes by. Think Aunt Jemima pancakes...and like that logo I think it's time for GSE to look at theirs. Some exploration of this topic might reveal to GSE that the logo is not working as they think. I have a relatively large body of posts on this forum. I have done my best at all times to hew to the rules. I stay civil, even under attack by others in a personal way. I don't engage in prohibited topics. So I am at a loss to understand why these have been totally deleted without so much as the honor of a comment or explanation? Surely one deserves that at a minimum?
