I towed it across country to Yuma in 2015 and to Florida and back to NC in 16,17 and 18. My only complaint was there is no lateral forgiveness with the ratchets as they are bolted in place. When the car was loaded you had to be centered on the ratchets or back down the ramps and try again. In order to preserve marital harmony I sold the Acme and purchased a Stehl dolly. Now loading is a breeze as the ratchets can be moved if you are out a couple of inches. The Stehl is heavier but it has surge disc brakes as the Acme did and it is easier to load. Mastertow is a good dolly but they have drum surge brakes rather than disc Both of the dollys stored mostly under my Class C so they do not take a lot of room on a campsite. I believe many states require the dolly have brakes in order to be legal so be sure to ge a dolly with brakes, You can Google Acme Tow Dolly and see their video on their siteRe: Ford E450 Emission recall #15E05I received the recall letter for my 2014 E450 yesterday July 5. I live in NC and a Class C Motor home is only subject to an annual safety inspection not emissions for annual registration/renewal. To have it done I would have to go to the truck dealer in north Raleigh probably 50 mi round trip. I am going to wait and see the comments from other owners that need this done in other parts of the country requiring emission inspection and see how badly (if any) it hurts the MPGIs there a cabin air/pollen filter in a Ford E450is there a cabin air/pollen filter in my 2014 E450 Tioga Class C? I do not see a reference to this in the Ford owners manual. I just changed them in our cars and they were 'nasty' after the pollen season here in NCRe: E 450 V 10 MPGI thought I would share with you my actual mpg for my western trip in my Fleetwood Montera 25K E450 V-10 We left Raleigh, NC and travelled to Mt Rushmore, Yellowstone, Grand Teton, Bryce Canyon, Zion, Grand Canyon North and South Rims, Monument Valley, Canyon de Chelle, Albaquerque, Santa Fe and then eastward on I 40 to pigeon Forge and then home. We were gone from Labor Day to October 13 and travelled 6,264 miles and we purchased 702.2 gal of regular fuel for overall mpg of 8.92. We were not towing anything. During this trip we used the generator a good bit at Yellowstone, Grand Teton and the North rim as well as Canyon de Chelle in addition to lunch stops. I was surprised that a lot of the regular gas was 85 or 86 octane rather than 87 octane we have here in NC. The majority of the trip was at 60-62 mph and the tach showed about 22-2300 rpm except for I 90 and I 15. 90 is 75 mph and 15 from Sault Lake is 80! The fastest I went on these highways was 70. My starting mileage was 3800 mi so the engine was not really broken in and now I am over 10k and think the flat country mileage with neutral wind and not towing is 9.2 to nearly 10. I did not have the wind at my back at any time so I did not benefit from it. I guess this mileage is the norm? I wish the Ford cruise control fed more gas rather than allowing the down shift but I guess that is the nature of the beast. Tow haul was a great friend on the mountainous roads and I used cruise sparingly. If I was using cruise I gave it a little acceleration on the hills (up to 2500 rpm) and allowed it to lug down to 2000 rpm to avoid the downshiftsHolland Companion GrillI know - you cannot char/sear meats on this grill but its versatility makes up for it. One of our favorite meals is meatloaf on this grill. Simply make your favorite loaf recipe and shape it like a half football on a plate and slide it off the plate onto the grill surface which is kinda like mesh. 50 minutes later heat your Bob Evans mashed potatos (we like garlic) and some frozen peas, beans or?. Two flippers (spatulas) lift the loaf and you have a great diner type meal. The holland grill cooks chicken and ribs brats and dogs without turning and you do not have to open or check the meat. Cokctail time is less stressful when you do not have to keep checking on what you are grilling We live off this grill for the 10 weeks we spend in Florida State Parks each winterRe: Towing a VW Beetle or? on an Acme Tow DollyGlad everyone is happy towing 4 down but that is not an option for me. The Acme dolly is light weight, can be stood up or stowed mostly under the m/h. I would like the option of buying/selling a front wheel drive car with no investment in braking etc.The Acme dolly has surge brakes and would be readily saleable should I do not want to continue to tow and is reasonable in cost. The car HAS to be an automatic as DW has never been able to master a standard. I just wanted opinions if any models on a dolly performed better than othersTowing a VW Beetle or? on an Acme Tow DollyI sold my Diesel Silverado and we now have only one car a Hyundai Azera. We acquired a new Fleetwood Tioga Montera and I plan on buying a second car and I would like a Beetle Convertible (lost youth ha ha) and might tow it with an Acme Tow Dolly that is made in Kernersville a little west of Raleigh. My question is do some cars tow better on a dolly than others? My first thought was for a Fiat 500 about 2500 lbs curb weight but now lean towards a VW at about 3000lbs curb weight. ( Fiat's past record in North America is not good) I think a VW would be more easily serviced in NA but will it tow/track on a dolly or are their better models to consider? Volvo or ??Re: Satellite Radio Antenna Placement on a Class CThanks GMTOYMAN every one likes someone who has ALL the answers. I did search satellite radio before I posted and did not find YOUR WEALTH OF INFORMATION!!! Adios syonarra I am out of here. I guess I have a life and do not read the forum much!!! Color me GONESatellite Radio Antenna Placement on a Class CDoes anyone here have experience placing the ‘pill box’ antenna on a Class C motorhome? I have been using an XM Satellite Radio Module in my truck with the antenna placed on the center of the dash at the base of the windshield and this gave satisfactory reception. It even worked well when I pulled my 5th wheel as it could ‘see’ the southern sky even when coming north on I 95 from Florida. I was wondering if this type of installation would work in a Class C MH given the cab overhang on these units. Would it ‘see’ the southern sky when travelling north? Would a front bumper installation work or will I have to pierce the roof. Maybe I could feed it through the roof where the TV coax comes through. Has anyone here any experience with the antenna placement?Re: Deal on the Coachmen 2009 27RS fell thruThanks to all who posted and what a great source of knowledge and opinion this forum is. I spent 26 years in the construction equipment business most of it in management on the retail side of the business and I do know the difference between a good deal and a good looking deal. I bought the Tioga 25K (V-10 450)today and although I probably paid too much for it it is what I wanted. I played the dealer game and traded my '10 Rockwood 8285WS but I do not have to put up with tire kickers and loonies coming to my home during the sales process. I will sell my 'creampuff' (60K mi) '08 Silverado Allison Durmax xtended cab long bed and this will offset some of my cost as I 'bought this truck right' I have a truck that has 3 yrs 50,000 mi warranty and a coach with 1 year warranty which I will use the heck out of so any deficiencies are evident under warranty. I plan to enjoy this unit going to the 'Oprey (Nashville), Myrtle Beach as well as visiting relatives in Nova Scotia. I can now afford the ferry costs to go to Newfoundland. So my philosophy is not to sweat the small stuff - Don't Worry Be Happy as I will never have to put water on my Cheerios. I know the sales manager is happy and the salesman is happy and I have the unit I wanted. Could I have ground out another reduction probably but I did not want to sit there all day or go back again as I have other things to do- that is not to say I have $ to burn but I am happy with the deal I made. See you all down the road as I have my reservations made for Florida January 4 to February 16 and will do the rest of February and March as soon as the calendar (11 mos in advance)permits Happy camping!
