Need suggestions...We're planning an unconventional Christmas by taking advantage of work/school closures and going campin'. We want to stay in Big Bend NP over Christmas and then drive out to the coast somewhere in the vicinity of Corpus Christie/Padre Island. Any suggestions for parks/sites? What's the weather/scene like on the coast that time of year? We're about 6 months out and I want to make reservations now. Thanks a bunch!Re: Wiring a new Curt ReceiverThanks for the photos, but please tell me what I need to order to go with the new Curt I ordered. I am not a mechanic, I don't know anything about cars. I have a 2004 Suburban. It has a factory installed OEM receiver with a "outlet/plug/socket" integrated with the receiver for the trailer wiring. Based on the input I received on this forum with regard to the current receiver being unsafe, I ordered the Curt replacement. The curt Does not have any place to plug in the trailer. I intend to have a mechanic replace the receiver with the one I have purchased. My question is...do I need to buy something to attach to the curt so that I can plug the trailer in? If so, what? Can someone please give me a part number? The mechanic will do the install.Re: Wiring a new Curt ReceiverMore...I guess I want to know...is this how receivers normally come shipped? I guess I just thought it would come with the "plug" already attached. The fix-it shop quoted me a very reasonable price to unbolt my old receiver and attach the new one. He told me it would take about 30 minutes. Is it going to cost a lot more to weld on a new wiring "plug"? I am planning on camping next weekend and if I need to order a new part, I need to do is ASAP so that it will arrive early in the week. Thanks!Re: Wiring a new Curt ReceiverThanks for the reply...BUT it looks to me that the "plug" is welded onto the receiver. I don't see how to remove the "plug" from the receiver, they look completely integrated. I am I making any sense? Furthermore, the curt receiver I ordered is just smooth, metal, I don't see a place to attach a "plug".Wiring a new Curt ReceiverI took everyone's advice in a previous question about buying a replacement receiver for my new used 2004 8.1L Suburban. I purchased the 15234 Curt. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00A8XHG56/ref=oh_details_o02_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I plan to have our local trailer fix-it shop do the install. The Burb's current oem receiver has a wiring harness, which the new Curt does not. Do I need to order another part for the wiring? Confused, help!WDH/equalizer and hitch receiver advice for newbieWe're about to purchase our first TT, an Outback 230rs. It' a toy hauler, however we're not planning on taking any motorized toys. The heaviest thing in the front "garage" will be clothes/food and occasionally, five bicycles. Our TV is a 2004 Suburban 2500 with the 8.1L and 3.73. What type of WDH/equalizer should we get for this set up? Is this something I should get installed from the dealer, or can we buy off the net and DIY? Also, we just bought the TV used. I've heard that the old GM receivers aren't so hot and may need replacement...any suggestions on that? Finally, the TV has a prodigy brake thingy plugged in. Will I be able to use it with the new trailer? Sorry for all the dumb questions...our current RV is a pup, so all of this is new. We're trying to save $ on the purchase of all this stuff and the install. DH is a newbie too, but is usually pretty handy once he figures out what needs to be done.Re: PUP Awning worth the darn?We always use our awning. I love sitting under it. Once we were camping when a monster rain storm came in. DH and I sat under the awning drinking margaritas while the boys drove their toy cars all over the inside of the pup. It was a great time and a wonderful memory.Re: looking to upgrade from hybrid to hard sided for room...Just sure you can fit on the short queen. With the entertainment center right at the foot of the bed, my husband was too tall, especially when you consider that a pillow pushes ones head away from the wall several inches. It's annoying because we really liked similar floorplans, but we can't consider them.Re: Storage in small bunkhouse & rear slide TTs 2012Coleman wrote: Mik68 wrote: I feel for you anthem76, We have been looking for exactly the same thing. It doesn't seem to matter how large you go in TT, none of them have much storage for kids. With some exceptions, Lance 2185 & KZ spree 240BHS aren't bad. Hey! You are "camping"... Aren't you supposed to be roughing it?? :B Coming from a background backpacking with a micro tent, not much about the RV lifestyle seems like roughing it to me. It all seems so luxurious. :) We do try to minimize our belongings on trips, but with 3 kids, their clothes really add up on longer trips. Plus, one of our kids is still a baby, so we have all the stuff that goes with keeping him clean, dry, fed, entertained, contained, carried, etc.... I dunno, it does seem silly to complain, but when we're about to spend so much money on a camper, I want to try and get mostly what we want. And storage is high on my list of priorities.
