JeffRe: Super C Motor Home Questions ronfisherman wrote: rollindowntheroad wrote: Hello All. I have some questions on Super C motor homes. 1) How long have they been around? 2) Are they all diesel? 3) How many full time in a Super C? 4) What is the towing capacity? 5) Any advantages of a Super C over a Class A or vise versa? I have been investigating Class A gas, motor homes for full timing when I retire. Recently discovered the Super C's. I have looked at regular class C's but don't know if they would be big enough for me to full time in. It is just me but don't know if I would be comfortable in one or not. Thanks in advance for your responses. 1. The name showed up in 2004. But concept has been around long before that. 2. Currently they are all diesel. The Chevy C5500 models came in gas and diesel. Several manufactures used both engine. Most by Gulf Stream. 3. We spent 5 to 6 months ours. I have met others that full time. 4. You can tow around 6k. Depends on how loaded the MH is. Some of the newer ones have more towing than that.. 5. If you look at a 35’ Class A and compare it to a 35’ Class C. There is more living space in a ClassA. Part of the 35’ in a Class C is the hood. The Class C are easier to do Chassis maintance. In 2019 Chevy is coming out with a new Medium Duty chassis. I look forward to seeing some of them with a Class C on it Ron makes some good points. We fulltimed in our Endura for 7 years and just recently bought a house. My wife doesn't like being on display behind the big windshield of a class A. I believe the cab of a Super C is safer than the drivers area of a Class A. There are extra doors to get in and out of the rig. The tow hitch is rated at 10k# and I towed a 7500# trailer last summer. When we started it was my Wife and I along with 2 dogs and 2 cats. One dog was 75# too. Also I prefer driving a truck instead of a bus. JeffRe: Kodiak tiresThanks Ron. The tire shop yesterday said the 245's would not fit. Was going to try to save some money and buy tires in Oregon. No sales tax. I've been running the 225 XZE's since 2010. I'd prefer Michelins again. Thanks again. JeffKodiak tiresHave any of you Kodiak owners gone from a 225/70-19.5 to a 245/70 -19.5? When I put the last set on I also used Dynabeads instead of a spin balance. I've not had any issues but a tire shop I talked to today recommended a spin balance not beads. Thanks. JeffRe: Brakes on C5500 KodiakCome to find out the rear calipers were stuck and wore off the outside of the rotors nearly to the vents in the center of the rotor. It appears that because of the weight of these rigs there is a lot of brake bias to the rear brakes. Not like a regular car or truck where the front brakes do the majority of the braking. So I got new calipers, rotors, pads and seals on the rear and the fronts are still good. It is difficult to see the rotor the way everything is covered. You need to pull the wheels to get a good look. Jeff :)Re: Brakes on C5500 KodiakThanks Ron. I'm taking it in on Monday to get looked at. Will let you know what happens. Jeff :)Brakes on C5500 KodiakHas anyone replaced their Kodiak's brakes? I've noticed a grinding noise from the front brakes lately. There is alot of pad still there at least 3/8ths of an inch. Also the pedal is feeling soft. I plan to get them checked soon. Just bracing myself for the cost. LOL. Thanks. Jeff :)Re: 2004 GS Endura Power Cable From Gen to BatteryDue to my poor maintenance of the coach battery cable ends the hydraulics ran intermittently. Also the generator was not running and giving a code 27. I put new ends on the cables and both ( hydraulics and generator) are happy now. JeffRe: Fresh water tank don't take water? Old-Biscuit wrote: Dutch_12078 wrote: Back when we had our old Class C with a gravity feed tank fill, I used a homemade version of a water tank filler like this one from Camping World. It completely eliminated "blow back" under most conditions. Seeing the picture of that reminds me........I still have the clear tube part down in my hose/tank. It blew off the yellow plastic shut off when filling one day about 7 yrs. ago. Still have the yellow shut off valve :B Mine came off too but I caught it and use a hose clamp to keep it on. First time I tried to fill mine I dicovered it liked it better fast than slow. Slow it would run back out. JeffRe: Fueling the KodiakWhen I put the 91 gallons in the other day my Scangauge said it would take 89.7. Just over 600 miles on a tank of gas not diesel. Using the AC and towing the Wrangler too. Takes it a long time to come off the full. It has to be leaning to the passenger side and fill it slowly. Jeff
