All ActivityMost RecentMost LikesSolutionsNew to thisHave a deal ready to go on a used DP, conditional on a test drive. Looking at changing some other vehicles to get a vehicle to tow. Looking at 2011-2014 Explorers. Looked at one which has the Limited trim, very nice, but it has the push button ignition. Is that an issue for flat towing? As far as what position the ignition should be in? Like the Blue Ox set up, looks fairly straight forward to connect and disconnect. Thanks DougCoach layoutsBeen wanting to upgrade to a DP for a while (budget prevents it), so doing lots of research. One thing that I do look for in a coach is a table/dinette on the curbside. These layouts seem to be very hard to find, even on new coaches (look there just to dream) the kitchens tend to be on the curbside on most layouts. I want to be able to look out at my own site if I'm at my table, not my neighbor. Just curious if there is a reason for the kitchens to be on the curbside? At first I thought it was because most slides are on roadside and the logistics of sliding the kitchen could be an issue, but I do see many layouts with curbside slides with the kitchen in them. Just wondering. Thanks DougRe: Vehicles on DolliesThanks for replies. Was referring to a front wheel drive vehicle Vehicle being towed on a dolly Reason for not looking at towing 4 down is that I may use different vehicles behind coach and don't want to be buying base plates. Of course none of this is an issue at this time as we have not purchased a coach yet Just tying to research things at this point Thanks again DougVehicles on DolliesNow that I think I've narrowed my coach choices down, I am thinking about toads. Can any FWD vehicle be towed using a tow dolly? ThanksTag axlesDo all coaches with tag axles have a option to lift the tag ? If not, how would you know? If you are viewing coaches online. I would figure that if I was seeing a coach in person I would be able to find a switch labeled as a tag lift or a dump. Just curious as I continue to try and learn more about these coaches so I can make an educated decision when/if we decide to buy. Looking at 2005-2006 model years, mostly Newmars Thanks DougRe: DP's and Prov/State parksThanks for reply Ivylog I agree with you on the DP's not being set up for larger families, but the 2 oldest don't come with us anymore and we're almost not cool enough for the 16 year old either, so needing sleeping for 6 isn't really an issue. Just getting lazy and the current set up, although still nice, is a bit of work. The bullet proof 6.0 is nice, but what it's costing me(just in plates and annual inspections) to keep it around just to pull the trailer is a pain. The truck used to get used for work, but not now. Can't fix stupid can also apply to my 6.0 issues DougDP's and Prov/State parksLooking at making a change from our current set up (in signature) to a 40-42 foot DP. We like to camp at provincial parks and state parks. We don't see too many DP's in these places. How many DP owners camp in Prov or State parks and have they ever had any issues with navigating the sometimes tight roads, accessing sites or ground clearance when leaving the road to enter a site. Our current set up is fairly long (60'), and have not encountered any issues on the roads as far as making it through the turns, but I know a 40'+ DP will handle different. The ground clearance is the one thing I hadn't considered until I saw a video on You tube that showed a Tag axle DP bottomed out at a turn around area off a highway. Looked as though once the tag had left the road surface, the drop was too much and the rear was on the surface which caused the drive axles to be off the ground. Not sure how much damage that one would cause. Any feedback is appreciated as I am just doing some research at this point. Don't want to make a switch into a unit and find I can't go where we are used to going. Thanks DougRe: Wheel base and tag axlesMM Thanks for the info regarding Prevost coaches. I have never researched Prevost as they are out of my budget, and there is obviously good reasoning behind the cost of Prevost Coaches. The previous comment was not meant as a shot a Prevost as far as the quality of their coaches, but it was a reply to the previous comment regarding the handling. Thanks again for the info, I did not know that about their coaches. DougRe: Wheel base and tag axlesThanks for the info My searching keeps bringing me back to the Newmar line. Country Coaches are nice and wouldn't not consider them. A lot of times they are a bit out of our budget, most likely because they are so good and hold their value, which is something to definitely consider. Hard to find them up here too. If we did look at a Monaco line of coach, it would be from the lines that were built in the West Coast factory, which I believe is the Coburg facility you refer to. I suppose it would be tough to tell a Prevost owner that anything was better than a Prevost. :)Re: Wheel base and tag axlesThanks Dick In 2002, was Beaver under the Monaco family? If so were they built on the same lines or did Beaver keep all their production the same under Monaco ownership? Problem we have up here in Canada is a very limited supply of coaches. Beaver coaches are pretty hard to find up here, there are a few though. Have become partial to Newmar Mountain Aires's and Dutch Star's (2004-2006's) I do like the Monaco, HR, Beaver, Safari from those years as well Doug
