- LwiddisExplorer III'd take CA58 from the I5 to US101. Then north to CA41 and into Morro Bay. If you don't mind a fairly steep down hill (I don't), go south on US101 to CA1 and then to Morro Bay.
- Pangaea_RonExplorerYour route from I5 to 46 to 101 to 41 seems the best option.
We just did a similar route from Morrow Bay to Kettleman City with no issues.
Do not, I repeat, do not take Old Creek Road from 46 to Cayucos. The warning signs restricting the road to trucks under 7 tons, and not recommended for Trailers or RV's are accurate. . . very accurate. Our GPS took us on that route, and the warning sign was visible only after we had made the turn. Towing the CRV behind our 36 MH made backing up problematic, so we continued on. Locals we amazed that we successfully navigated that route. I had a very special Martini after that white-knuckled ride. - KCFDCaptExplorerI am a local and use this route to avoid I-5 and 99. Both are rough an 5 has narrow places with one lane.
I go north on 99 to Lerdo Hwy. Take the Shafter exit and proceed west. Go all the way to Hwy 33 and turn north. At Blackwells Corner turn west on Hwy 46. Go to Paso Robles and turn south on Hwy 101. I prefer to take Hwy 46 to Hwy 1. It is much wider and has shoulders. Hwy 41 has steep grades and tight turns. Once you hit Hwy 1 it is a straight shot to Morro Bay.
We go to Morro Bay, Cayucos and Paso Robles about 6 times a year. Best route we have found. - dicknellenExplorer IIKCFDcapt X 2 We are no longer Bkfd residents but when were that was our route. 58 & 41 ok in a car, but not RV friendly. Dick
- LwiddisExplorer III completely agree with Pangaea Ron regarding Old Creek Road. Nice drive but not with my TT.

X 3 . Best route by far - discovery4usExplorerX 4. If you are going this week expect big crowds. Forecast showing around 110 in Bakersfield so there will be a mass exodus for the coast over the next week.
- RE_ToddExplorerI would not take the 58 from the I5 to the 101!! Take a motorcycle or a sports car!!
