- mustardExplorerIf you go to Memphis after Nashville, try hwy 61 south. We did it last year and was a nice leisurely drive. You could also hit the casinos at Tunica, MS.
- campiglooExplorerIf you choose the Houston route, Galveston Island State Park is nice.
- houtrzExplorerDrove from Lima Ohio to Houston several times and my best route was Dayton-Cincinatti-Lousiville-Nashville-Memphis-Jackson-Baton Rouge-Beaumont-Houston.
- chris3403ExplorerWe've been going down to the Corpus Christi/Rockport area since 2004 from the Louisville Ky area and we have been every way imaginable and we have found out the best for us is:
I65 south to Nashville, I40 to Memphis, I30 to Texarkana, US59 down to Houston, pick up US77 on down toward Corupus or get on TX-35 over to Rockport.
You only have 4 or 5 RV parks in Corpus whereas Rockport has over 10 - Joe_in_TexasExplorerMHO:
Avoid I20 thru Louisana.....it is rough riding!!
I40 to I30 thru Tenn. and Arkansas would be better....
Have been on both route the past two months.
Came down 75 from Detroit to Nashville to Memphis to Dallas just 10 days ago.
If you have time - stop in West Memphis Arkansas at Tom Sawyer RV Park on the Mississippi River, very enjoyable, relaxing stop. - artguysExplorerI 71 to Louisville...I 265 to I 65 south to Elizabethtown...south of Etown catch the WK/Western Kentucky Pkwy(good scenery, lightly traveled) to I 24...west about 10 miles to Hwy 51/the old Purchase Pkwy(another lightly traveled divided hwy)look for a small oval racetrack on your left, the exit is immediately after that...follow into Tennessee which about Dyersburg it turns into I 155 take this to I 55 in Arkansas. From there once you reach W Memphis and I 40 there are 2 choices...my preferred is I 40 to N. Little Rock...catch I 30 to Texarkana...again 2 choices, and again my preferred is I 59 south. This route wont wear you out dealing with the big truck traffic...the only stretch with lots of truck traffic is I 40 from Memphis to Little Rock.
- nazpazExplorerI really enjoyed traveling down Natchez Trace Parkway - we spent nearly a month, stopping at Natchez Trace Thousand Trails, and three Mississippi state parks. I liked the easy going 50 mph speed limit on the trace with no commercial traffic. (we blogged several entries about the trip - linked in my sig. line).
Having said that, if I were in the point-to-point mode I'd probably do Nashville - Little Rock - Houston. - DougEExplorerIf you're in Columbus or further north, I70 west to I57, I57 south to I55. I55 south to I40. I40 west to I30. I30 west to Loop 610 around SE Dallas. I35 south to San Antonio. I37 southeast to Corpus Christi. I used this route for several years traveling between Cleveland and San Antonio. If you're south of Columbus, I71 south to I65, then I65 to I40, then west as above.
- darsbenExplorer IIHave fun
stay safe - deecat2000ExplorerThanks for the link, I didn't consider that route and was thinking more of Interstates. We thought that we would check out the Corpus Christi area and other places being our first visit to TX. We hope to avoid bad weather along the way.
