Bypassing Cincinnati and Most of Ohio?

Heading to Florida shortly from Canada. Usually pick up I75 south of Detroit and follow it all the way to Florida. Heard that there's a lot of construction on I75 around Cincinnati and real slow going on most of I75 through Ohio. Any suggestions on how to get around that area? Thanks.

How about the following weekend? Will it be cleared out by then? Plan to roll through on the 9th.
  • Agree with Parrothead Mike. I65 is a much easier drive and a lot less traffic. And you avoid Atlanta. Just don't go through Louisville, KY. the weekend of May 2nd. Derby Day.
  • If crossing at Sarnia/Port Huron: Continue on I-69 to Lansing and then take that south to Indianapolis. Take I-465 around the east side of Indy and then catch I-65 south through Louisville KY, Nashville TN, Birmingham AL to Montgomery AL. In Montgomery go east on the ? interstate to the east side of town and take exit 6 south to catch US231 and follow that south to the FL panhandle and I-10 east. We usually take US19 south off I-10 along the gulf coast side of FL (usually say in Crystal River). If you're going to central or further south in FL you can cut over to I-75 via US98 just south of the Crystal River/Homosassa area through Brooksville.
  • We were through Cincyand back on 75 this week, really not much delay at all. maybe a 4 mile limit at 45 mph. hree laneeee al the way.
  • Take 75 to 90 east then south on 77. 26 east to 95 south into Florida?
  • Native Cincinnatian here. If you take I-275E around Cincinnati, you'll miss a ton of semi traffic that stays on I-75, and it only adds 18 miles to your total trip.
  • I drove to Florida over Christmas. While there is construction on I-75 in Ohio, I did not experience any significant delays (I came through in mid-afternoon so avoided rush hour). Most of the construction is just south of Toledo where they are in the process of widening I-75. I looked for alternate routes but did not find a route that didn't take me well out of the way.
  • We take I75, and every trip there is construction in 3-4 places. This past summer there was some minor stuff in Ohio and Georgia but nothing worth worrying about. I75 is the quickest easiest route. For 20 hours of driving from London to Orlando, I have never lost more than a half hour to construction. I would just suggest avoiding going thru Cincinnati during rush hour.
