Colorado 139

We are thinking of taking 139 from Loma, Colorado to Rangley, Colorado. If anyone has been on this road recently we would appreciate information on road conditions. We will be towing a 32 foot fifth wheel.
Thank you!

    Lucy,

Been a few years but we loved the drive - yes it is in the mountains and requires you to drive a little but with DINO NM at the end it is great.

We have generally found that the roads in Colorado are kept in good shape and have never regretted taking many of the Roads Less Traveled.

Sorry I cant give you more current info but, I would not hesitate to drive it in my rig tomorrow.

    BOL,
  • CO 139 is a good 2 lane road with shoulders. Going in that direction its all a gradual uphill climb to 8,000 ft Douglas Pass then down the other side. Only the mile or so on each side of the pass are steep & twisty.
It's only about an hour and a half drive, but its a desolate area with no services until you hit Rangely. So don't be low on fuel leaving Loma.
When I was working we did some oil & gas exploration in that area. Haven't been back since retiring, but don't expect its changed much.
  • We made that exact route a few years ago. No problem, but I do consider Douglas Pass one of the more "serious" passes in Colorado. We were towing a 34' fifth-wheel, Chevy 2500 HD Duramax/Allison.

I would not hesitate to go that way again, but I have considerable experience in mountain towing.
  • Definitely not what I would call one of CO more "serious passes". A bit of a pull near the top but overall not bad at all.

On the north side of the pass there are a variety of Native American rock art sites. For some info:

Stopping to view some of these sites breaks up the drive a little bit. You might find limited parking at some of these with your rig, so just keep an eye out and visit the ones you can easily park at.
