We are visiting the west coast from KS. In a few days we will be returning home from the Crescent City, CA area and wondered if highway 299 to Redding, south from Redding to highway 36 to highway 395...

Yes....a good road. Other option....299 to Redding...Hwy. 44 to 396 to Susanville then to Reno. You pick up Hwy. 44 in Redding and it a very good drive also.
