What is best route towing 5th wheel?
we came up 17 from North Ft Meyers Beach to Disney World couple of months back with 2 motorhomes.....found it a great trip with no problems..
Interesting is I am a Hwy type guy..love the interstates,as I like to put the pedal down and get there,my buddy on the other hand is a "Lets see the USA in My Chevrolet" and loves the less traveled roads off the interstates...so we went up 17....
Glad we did ,was a great ride and will use it again this spring.....Chuck - TwainExplorerAgree with most. I-4 to I-75 is best for towing if you can miss rush hour in Tampa, Bradenton and Sarasota. I'd check the traffic maps before leaving as an accident can ruin the day. March is the worst month for traffic. Next route would be 27 to 29, to 80. US17 would have the most stop and go and a dozen towns. You could do 27 to 60 to 17 and miss the Winter Haven, Eagle Lake, and Lake Alfred lights.
- SkyfarmerExplorerNothing wrong with I-4 to I-75 if you avoid rush hours. Other routes take forever with stoplights and small town speeds.
- RichertExplorerJust went the route Aquanut is suggesting, it is very good, I think that I-4 to i75 is the long way or wrong way if there is the usual traffic
- AquanutExplorerFor me it would be I4 (which is a nightmare because of traffic) to 27. 27 to 29. 29 to labelle then hit 80 to ft Myers
- RoadpilotExplorerI would only consider 17 or 27 if it was rush hour in Tampa and there was an accident.
- wanderingbobExplorer IIIt also depends on what ya want to see ! Going thru the back woods there are a lot of museums , battlefields , mom and pop business . A lot more interesting than an Interstate hiway !
You can see some of the olde Florida , like before Disney ! - Lou_PatExplorerWe did this in reverse going to Sanford in March, 2016. Would not take Haines City and Winter Haven again. Wasn't even rush hour and the traffic lights were awful, especially thru Winter Haven.

Google maps is showing RT 17. Is that not good with a trailer?
You could head down 27 to Haines City and pick up 17-92 and then 17 down to Punta Gorda where you'd get on 75. Some of the areas like Haines City and especially Winter Haven would have a lot of traffic lights and slower speed limits. But you would miss the Tampa traffic on 75. - EsacnjExplorerGoogle maps is showing RT 17. Is that not good with a trailer?
