Only for the law biding
Illegal aliens get DLs in AZ and drive around w/o insurance all the time
Then a gain so do alot of US Citizens
Like I said...only the law biding do
Insurance is required to drive in US....so would imagine folks crossing either border (North/South) would need Insurance
In AZ a vehicle can not be licensed / plated without Insurance. If the Insurance expires the state will send a notice demanding proof of insurance or the plates will be pulled all within a month.

I recently purchased a Jeep from a private party in Arizona and I did not have to provide proof of insurance when I licensed the Jeep.
You should get a letter in the mail asking for proof. If not they screwed up, plain and simple!

The border surprise was that they needed something like the Mexican FMM if they planned to drive more than 25 miles north of Tucson. They already have 10 year US visas, so I don't know why the extra ticket was needed.
- navegatorExplorerYes Mexican plated vehicles entering and circulating in the United states of America by law have to have insurance that is valid in the USA, Mexican insurance is not enough they need one that covers the USA as well.
Ignorance of the law is no excuse!
navegator - moishehExplorerMex : The subject is not about insurance or even driving in Mexico. It is about a Mexican getting USA insurance.
Moisheh - MEXICOWANDERERExplorerAverage payout now for taking of a life in Mexico is $200,000(as per Jim Lewis). Cops, Ministerio Publico and survivor's family are part of the sum total.
- moishehExplorerBe aware that most of the US insurance you buy at the border is next to useless. Maybe if you run over a Dog! But the payments for a life are so low it is a joke. I have not checked lately but used to be around $25,000 coverage!
Moisheh - Talleyho69ModeratorWhen we still carried US insurance Progressive covered everything on our RV except liability when we were in Mexico. We had to make a claim two years ago, and they were great.
- Lenny_KExplorerI guess you have another insurance company now.

Canada and the United States have an agreement that as long as you have insurance in your country you can drive in either without buying additional insurance.
We had to notify our Canadian Insurance of our travels to USA and they in turn surcharged us for "US exposure". That just means we had the wrong insurance company. :)
