Dont forget Prince Edward Island

I see there are a couple of visitors on the road in the cape Breton area. check out pei on the way back
take the ferry from caribou, nova scotia to wood island pei, the hour long ride is free, you pay when you leave pei via the confederation bridge. the ferry ride alone is worth the effort/cost. be prepared to wait awile, 2 hours maybe. we made tea and had lunch in the lineup

from port hawksbery take the coastal road toward the ferry, its a 1/2 day driving so lots of time to stop and smell the roses

the later ferries get to pei close to dark, nice big walmart in Charlottetown, lots of campers there usually, 30-45 minutes from the ferry

the bridge to new Brunswick is a high speed highway bridge, like 10 minutes, it is a toll bridge. high winds and bad weather will close it but rarely
  • Enjoying PEI now. Did Charlottetown waterfront today. Also enjoyed a couple of days in Lunenburg and a few more in Sydney and on the Cabot Trail. Halifax was, IMO, a bust compared to my last visit maybe 15 yrs ago. Everything seems to be under construction.
  • Take in a ceilidh at the College of Piping and Performing Arts in Summerside or any of their performances. It's the best in the Celtic performing arts.
  • Lots to see in PEI including the beaches. Be sure to visit the wind farm research center and restaurant at North Point. We found few folks around until July.

Check festivals. Each province has them. ie. StanFest in NS, Festival of Small Halls in PEI, check East Coast Music Association awards 2017 for suggestions of groups. Lots of good ones around Atlantic Canada. & don't cry too hard if some are out of this area in summer. For example, 10 Strings and a Goatskin, could not be in Canada to accept their ECMA award this year because the King of Sweden had them booked for those dates.

You can do lots better than that!!! If you're thinking places to park/camp just use your eyes. & there is a visitors center very shortly after you leave the ferry where staff will help and give you a visitors guide.

I'm not a beach person, but I liked them when I was 15. So, my adult favs: going towards Charlottetown, the Orwell Corner historic village and museum and the Sir Andrew MacPhail Homestead, (kids, Chuckwagon eatery and playground), the Charlottetown Farmer's Market {go with empty freezer and empty tummy, Wed. or Sat.} Panmure Island, Strathgartney cg. with walks. Look at map for walks and scenic roads (prov. map)., New Glasgow Lobster Suppers for food and scenery. Lots of good places to eat too. & tours of Charlottetown too. Cape Bear Lighthouse all the way east along the shore road to the end of pave and hang a right per signs. Point Prim Lighthouse near Eldon, the one and only round lighthouse constructed of bricks, not to mention Wood Islands Lighthouse right when you get off the ferry (hang a right before you leave the ferry peninsula.) ---- course I'm forgetting quite a few lighthouses as I write.
