GMC / Chev Truck warranty work (in Mexico)

Hello,

Does anyone have experience getting warranty work done on their GMC/Chev vehicle in Mexico?

The language in the GM policy book seems rather vague about coverage in Mexico, so dealers are giving us conflicting info. Canada/USA is no problem.

We just want to make sure if we buy a GM truck and it needs warranty work (due to a defect or something) that we could get the work done and have GM pay for it.

Thanks
Rob

  • Thanks everybody. I now have assurance in writing that GMC will cover warranty work in all three countries.

  • Dodge diesel short answer.

    Fuel pump warranted

    3 week wait normal shipment

5 day wait a hundred eleven dollars for DHL
  • We had some fuel pump problems with a GM truck in Mexico. I paid the Mexican bill and turned it in to my GM dealer in Canada. GM reimbursed me. Ford dealers in Mexico are supposed to honor the warranty. Some parts can be a problem as many of the vehicles are quite different.

  • Just a comment regarding service and parts for US/Canada vehicles in Mexico. A couple of fellow RVers in the RV park we were at south of Mazatlan had issues with their vehicles, one was a V10 Ford motor home with a bad sensor, it took the Ford dealer about a month (2 sensors times 2 week delivery from the US) to sort out the problem, fortunately the people were are the park for the winter season.

I was also asked to get a part for a fellow RVer for a GM diesel pick up in Tuscon when we were on our way into Mexico because of a parts availability problem (again in the Mazatlan area).

Not sure if this answers your question on warranty coverage, and things may have improved recently for parts and service, but it still probably isn't as good as NOB.

  • We went to the GMC Dealership in Chetumal, Quintana Roo a few years back and they contacted the warranty program administrator in the US, got authorization and did the work under warranty, with us having to pay just the deductible.

The dealership had an Spanish-English speaking representative who took charge of the task and provided us with a free rental as our house is in Xcalak, about 120 miles away.

On the way back we had to have further work done at a GMC dealership in Las Vegas and they gave the thumbs up on the work done in Mexico.
  • I'm actually in Canada right now, but I know the dealer in Cancun you are mentioning.

It just seems to be a bit of a gray area. Documentations says it is good in North America, but that often (ridiculously) does not include Mexico.
  • Have you checked with a GM dealer in your area? I found a chevy dealer in Cancun you might check with: http://www.chevroletdelcaribe.com.mx/
