- SelkieExplorerMy Tundra is financed through Toyota. January 2013, prior to my 3 1/2 week trip into Mexico, I notified Toyota. They emailed me their permission, stressing that my Mexican insurance had Toyota Financial as lien holder. I was allowed 30 days in Mexico. I was never asked for these papers while in Mexico.
- Brihaver51ExplorerW4RLR, interesting seeings Hawaii is part of the U.S. I still do not understand why bringing a financed vehicle into MX would concern Mexico? It seems to have nothing to do with them, yet they (often) enforce it. I guess it as a favor to the U.S. too bad, some have spoiled it for others !
- W4RLRExplorerLien holders can be very picky. Not only do they have a problem with people taking their financed vehicles to Mexico, my former girlfriend found out she could not take her California financed car to Hawaii, until she got the military involved (she was a sailor reassigned to Pearl Harbor). She had the same problem trying to take that same car back to California after she completed her tour of duty. The lender demanded payment in full before the car could be shipped back to the mainland.
- darbone85737ExplorerGood luck and enjoy your trip
- Brihaver51ExplorerThanks, WesternRVpark owner. That's interesting! Well, I'll know on Monday if I am able to get a permit, or not. If not, I shall have to make other plans. Thank you for not being a jerk, like certain others on here; I'm I search of information, and have no idea why that offends some ppl. Have a great weekend!

There are companies (I use that term loosely) that actually research the registration of vehicles traveling in Mexico and send notification to the lienholder. They say that for a small fee they will locate and repossess the vehicle if necessary. When I was in banking, we did match that information up with the borrower and if it was an expensive piece of equipment and a borrower we had little experience with, we would follow up on that information. I guarantee your loan documents prohibit you taking the vehicle into any foreign country excluding Canada. I you were a new customer and had only made a couple of payments we were aggressive in verification and even repossessed a couple. Forgiveness was not an option.
The Registration has my name as the owner as well as the bank. I do not have the title. If I ask the bank for "permission" and they say NO, then I'm grounded. I'd rather ask for forgiveness, than beg for permission.
As usual, on any forum, there are many different answered to one question, and in the end, no one really knows.
Good idea to do it online. May be able to get the TIP that way.
Thanks everyone! - Brihaver51ExplorerNo need to be rude. I will do the right thing, whatever that is.
You people need to take a chill pill. It was just a question! - Talleyho69ModeratorTurtle-Toad is absolutely correct. Play the game, or don't go. Don't be stupid.
They don't want title, but the registration, and if it shows a Lien Holder, you HAVE to have paperwork!
Next time just pay cash for your vehicle! - Turtle-ToadExplorerIn this case you will destroy your trip! Because it's those guys with the badges at the border that want to see you 'permission slip' and without it you are not going to cross the border!
And if you have a registration that doesn't show a "Legal Owner" or "Lien Holder" and you don't bother to tell the lien holder that you are going across the border, and they found out, they can demand the full amount owed or turn in the vehicle. Just saying read the fine print on your contract! - Brihaver51ExplorerThe Registration has my name as the owner as well as the bank. I do not have the title.
