- MEXICOWANDERERExplorerTropical Storm Rosa is the question. After suffering miss-or-hit rainfall predictions, I always maintain my guard and keep an open mind about holing up somewhere on asphalt.
When Rosa or the subsequent tropical depression crosses Sonora and Chihuahua I hope it drops inches of rain to help helpless farmers who have suffered drought for too long. The Tarahumara indians rely on the sky for their corn and beans. Cattle get fatter and people smile and that makes me smile.
Over the USA I hope it rains three feet in the Lake Mead watershed. Adding fifty feet of lake level would be blessing. Not at all remotely likely...
The peninsula desert blooms in glory after a good early autumn rain.
But I do not trust prediction percentages when it comes to sporadic road flooding. 60% is more optimistic than 100%. And a 55 mph crosswind is not a hurricane, but prudence always pays off. Smile if fortune smiles on you. - qtla9111NomadLooks like Rosa isn't going to make landfall but will bring heavy rains to the Southwest U.S.
Forecasts for Hermosillo show rain next week but percentages between 20 and 60 for four days. - MEXICOWANDERERExplorerA hurricane (Rosa) is crossing mid Baja peninsula on Sunday and heading for Hermosillo. So this is an ongoing in-flux situation.
- robatthelakeExplorerYes My trip will indeed be in December, but there are several folks heading down next week who would like updates !
In my 20 years of travel in Mexico The Roads change each and every year and Repairs are not all that swift! - MEXICOWANDERERExplorerAre some of you referring to the planet EARTH?
The autopistas in the Culiacan area are all elevated. Taking the off ramp slopes downward and heads east into the city. There it floods. But the city itself is four miles to the east.
Mochis can have downtown flooding. But dkilley is claiming downtown Mochis (?) meaning the city portion of Mex 15 is flooded and detoured?
And Rob At The Lake is concerned if this will impact his travel plans for DECEMBER? - daveB110ExplorerWe heard on the Canadian news regarding flooding in Culiacan. I did not see it myself.
- Talleyho69ModeratorWhat city?
- dkilleyExplorerWe went through that area on Sunday...It seems like it will be closed for some time to come from the pictures.
We had to use google maps and my garmin gps to get through the city. Tried to follow a truck but he was too fast for me. Streets & turns are good for large RV (40ft + tow) to travel as long as you know where your going. It is complicated route and there were NO detour signs posted anywhere. Allow at least an extra 1 hour to do the detour...
Best advice I can give is to have a gps or google maps and try and stay behind a truck, but the truck may not know where to go either. Lets hope they get some detour signs up soon.
But when you arrive to your destination it will be worth it.. - MEXICOWANDERERExplorerThis is the SOLITARY news article from EL DEBATE the largest newspaper in the region (MOCHIS).
IF IF IF
There was an issue with Mex 15 and Mex 15D it would FAR over-ride importance of the state of back country dirt roads like this.

Servicios de Autobus de Estrella Blanca... reported...
White Star bus lines told me on the telephone that service and schedules were completely normal north to Guaymas and South to Tepic.
