Highway #2 Sedro Woolley to Kettle Falls

Has anyone done this route lately. Last time for Me was in 1957 in a car! Wondering how it would be in a 38 foot Dp towing a CRV!
  • You are mistaking WA-20 for US-2. WA-20 goes from Sedro-Woolley to Kettle Falls. US-2 goes from Everett to Spokane farther south.

We did SR-20 last month with our TT from Burlington on I-5 through Sedro-Woolley, over the N. Cascades, through Kettle Falls all the way to its terminus at Newport, WA on the Idaho border where it meets with US-20. Over 400 miles and a beautiful drive. A slow drive at times so you can’t be in a hurry...but very scenic.

WA-20 over the Cascades wasn’t opened until the early 70’s so in 1957 you would have taken US-2 over Stevens Pass to cross the mountains. We were a lot younger back then. Memories fog...mine do anyway.
  • We just came through the North Cascades westbound from Okanagan, B.C. We went through the border from Canada to USA. We headed south on 97 and proceeded west to Winthrop. After that we took HWY 20 westward, staying in Marblemount.

HWY 20 has some good climbs and downhill grades. So long as you have a good engine brake I don't think you'll have any issues. The views are spectacular. Don't let the sharper turns scare you. I did them in my dually and 34 ft fiver. No issues at all.
  • Fantastic drive, we'll be doing it this weekend (on to Winthrop). No trouble with RV or anything else.
  • US 2 doesn't begin on the west side until Everett farther south. WA 20 which begins at it's intersection with US 101 to the west of Port Townsend and goes all the way east is a good highway; there are some narrower sections though. You will especially enjoy WA 20 as it goes through Cascades National Park which begins a few miles east of Sedro-Woolley. If you want to travel eastward across WA on US 2, begin at Everett where it intersects I-5, this is an excellent highway and crosses a lot of beautiful wheat country east of Wenatchee. Good place to stop for a great blackberry milkshake is Wilbur, a little town east of the river. A perfect campground is at the state park along the Columbia River jus north of East Wenatchee right on US 2, think it's called Lincoln Rock. Just take your time on either road, not much traffic and certainly much nicer trip than I-90!
