Jackson Hole, Gr Teton and Yellowstone

Planning our first 5th wheel trip to this area starting at Jackson Hole and have 3 weeks to get to Seattle. So many different posts about how long to stay at each place. Also want to see Gr Teton, Yellowstone and Glacier NP. Any suggestions for the itinerary?
  • We dry camped at Colter Bay in the Tetons, just drove in and got a site in a rather full CG. What a great location to see the area sights. From there W Yellowstone for 2 days which is a good location for both Yellowstone loops. And then on to Fishing Bridge with our reservation to meet friends. Besides the loops this is a good location to drive to Cody to see the Buffalo Bill museum. Plan on a full day for this fantastic museum.
  • Our friends and 4 other rigs took route 22 into Jackson, Wy. This route has long 10% grades on both sides of the pass. They were greeted by a sign in Wilson “Free coffee and popcorn while we fix your brakes”. :S Three of the rigs spent $3K each at the brake shop! :( Several of them saw the light and watched a video in Jackson on mountain driving. :C
  • From Jackson Hole you can see Grand Tetons in 1 day and night on your way to Yellowstone. 3 days in Yellowstone should give you a good tour. If you stay at Fishing Bridge (only one with hookups in YNP) It is centrally located and a great base camp to keep from a lot of backtracking. Then see Mammoth on your way out heading to Glacier.

PS Add an additional day for a "must see" of driving toad over to Red Lodge, Montana over Beartooth highway back through Cody and back to East Entrance to YNP to Fishing Bridge....( a long day, but worth it).
  • Ditto for St Mary. You will be looking up at the rugged peaks while having your morning coffee. And there are fantastic day hikes nearby. If you stay outside of Yellowstone you will have a fairly long drive in and back every day. Stay in the park and you will have much more time for the sights. I go in spring or fall. Summers are a traffic jam and nose to butt on the most popular trails. A raft trip on the Snake River out of Jackson is a hoot! Yellowstone is tops for its thermal sights but Glacier and the "Going to the sun" road take your breath away.
