List for Baja and Mexico campgrounds?

I was looking at a few post and found some web site for a list of campgrounds in Mexico and the Baja. How up to date are these sites?

I am not sure where I want to go for now but I allways wanted to see the Bahia once in my life.

For the Bahia, it seems easier and more fun to use a 4x4 truck camper. I could buy a cheap Truck Camper and sell it once the trip is over or use the 34 feet Motorhome.

I beleive this is the updated Church and Terri, but I guess this site is updated as campers go by and willingly send the info, otherwise you can end up with a closed campground? Planning not to travel at night, it could be a challenge getting to the site and find it is closed.

This one seems to be the most up to date, for the Baja anyway.

Great site but I do not see the dates, great picture, any more details somwhere?

Any other websites?
  • Biansue2, I see that you have traveled quite far into Mexico and you did it with a Motorhome? How is the drive with the MH? Do you often have problems going places you want or finding a campsite?
  • The further I went in the Baja was Bufadora, I was in the Ensenada area for a week. This was in april in 2007 and I did not have any camping book but found it very easy to find a campsite either near Bufadora, Ensenada or Rosarito and in between. In Rosarito I was in a hotel resort with camping by the ocean, there was only one other camper. I guess there are many Americans going to the Baja in summer, there where many condos rising up in the area at that time, taking the old houses down.

It is just that there are so many saying that campgrounds are closing in Mexico.
  • We live in La Paz on the Baja full-time. Campgrounds open and close all the time but there are a lot of them along the Mex 1 route. I think a good share of the ones in the Church's book are still open or have updates on their site and many have phone numbers as briansue indicated.

Also - as we drive the Baja we see so many more campgrounds than those listed - there are many, many to choose from. The only limitation would be if you are driving a big heavy rig. Then you want to make sure you will fit into the spots and can easily get in and out.

If you are driving a truck and camper you should be fine.

  • The websites you list are the only ones I know of. You have to have the Church book to understand the updates on their website. The only other option is to ask specific questions here about specific locations and hope someone has been there recently. Many places have phone numbers and email and websites so you can try contacting them. There are also many truckstop size Pemex station where some people overnight when nothing else is available. We have stayed in quite a few Pemex stations as overnight stops but we know where they are from our experience. Others do the same. So you have to plan your route and have some idea of where you might be each day and then ask questions here. In our experience you can only count on going a couple hundred miles each day. We plan our stops based on places to go and things to do along the way. We do not plan a stop 1,000 miles away and try to get there in one shot. Depends on where you cross the border and where you plan to end up and the route you are thinking of taking. Once you get some idea about that you can ask more specific questions here.
