Lukeville Crossing and Paper work

I have reread and read as many posts as I can find on here and this is what I have concluded;

Park on the USA side of the border and walk across to the immigration office to get a tourist visa

Drive to; between Caborca/Altar (town of Pitiquito) to get a temporary import sticker for vehicles at the bank building. (Approx 100 km along hwy 2)

Questions; where is the immigration building for tourist permit?

is the place where one gets the import permit easy to see, do you pull off the hwy in a town , how is the parking for a large rig?

Thanks very much. I wish to avoid Nogales as the last time thru there was difficult with a 36 footer and tow, this time 43 feet plus tow.

  • I have been through both crossings but it has been a couple of years and Lukeville only once a long time ago. I do not wish to get on-line paper work just in case. but i will be in Yuma and you are saying I may go over the border get my tourist visa, go back into the USA, drive to Nogales, the construction at border crossing is finished and ample room for a 43 mh (truck crossing) to get by and get my TIP at K21?

If so then we will probably do that as we do head for San Carlos that day.

    Thanks again.
  • We'll be crossing at Lukeville next week. We prefer it. Get your TIP on line, easy, fast and the same price. Get your FMM's at the big center for that just past Caborca. Easy.
Last year we were asked for papers for our dogs. We handed them out of the window, they said, "One minute, please." While the copies were being made, they took a picture of one of our dogs through the window. Very nice, good English, helpful.
The form that is needed is available on line. Fill it out, sign it, and you are done.
  • You get the visa in the building just to the west of the flag pole in the middle of the highway.

I stopped crossing at Lukeville, I found them far more picky there than at Nogales with all sorts of silly variations on the rules. You are more likely to be asked for a things like a marriage certificate, vet papers for your dog and have food taken away. Plus they can easily see your vehicle, and come up with soem excuse as to why it is inadmissible, whereas at Nogales they cannot. I think they are bored. I cross south at Nogales, & north at Lukeville. Besides crossing at Nogales makes it a lot easier to make it to San Carlos in one day.
  • Ok here is the way We do it!

First We order the TIP on Line ..Use Internet Explorer or it will not work!

If You follow the correct procedures it will arrive at Your Door in 3 to4 Business Days. I ordered Mine on a Friday afternoon ..It arrived on Wednesday Morning! I live in a Rural area of Vancouver Island!

We obtain Our Visitor Permit at ANY of the Border crossings en route!

Los Algodones OR San Luis ....are both convenient to the Yuma Area so We usually do the deed there!

However if You are so inclined You may obtain Yours at Lukeville/Sonoyta . the Immigration Office is right at the Border on the right hand side of the road! There is NO Parking!

It is imho easiest to park at the Store or ?? Parking lot on the right side of the road BEFORE Entering Mexico. Walk along the Sidewalk through the Border,Immigration is the First building on the Right. You fill out the Form, go to the Banjercito next door or across the Road. ( They keep moving that)Pay Your Money, then return to the same Immigration office where the official will stamp Your Passport and Form .

Then Walk across the Street and re enter the USA on foot!

after that get in Your Rig and head down the road to Pitiquito and beyond!

If You would rather get The TIP at Pitiquito it is very easy to do so.

However DO NOT try to Enter the Normal (Car) Parking area with Your Rig!

You must park up on the right side of the Roadway ! If You Google Earth the site it will be obvious!

Personally I Do Not care to enter Mexico through Lukeville!

Nogales is far Easier and if You have Your Paperwork done ahead of time Quicker!
