Check out the NL tourism website. It has lots of information on which towns have festivals. I posted the link below for you. Check out Water Street. There are some traditional Irish pubs there as well. I believe that Shamrock City, and O'Reilly are down there. Its within walking distance from George Street. During the day, Water street also has lots of small shops and small restaurants. Mom and Pop types of places. While there you may try Yellow Belly Brewery, it's also on Water Street.

While on this side of the island take a side trip to Quidi Vidi (pronounced kiddy viddy), its laid out very similarly to a traditional NL fishing village. There is also the icebrg brewery down there. You can get beer made from melted iceberg water.

Trailerbikecamper, we like the music festivals, especially if there is onsite camping. Dry camping is fine by us. We have done a bunch of varying sizes. Don't like the really big ones. Big names don't impress us much. Canso is on the possibility list. There is a Highland Games Festival a week later near Pictou and another festival in Shediac which may be worked in. A night on Georges St, St John seems to be a must do for the Irish music.

Lots of time to research. I tend to go at it then forget it for weeks, then do another research binge.

Gasoline prices are regulated in New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia and Newfoundland and Labrador.

Right now, you want "Public Utilities Board" or http://www.pub.nf.ca/ppoprices.htm. Then click on Motor Fuel for table of prices in various locations.

Check all of those provinces regularly. One week NB will be less, the next PEI, or NS. It varies, but a few cents higher per litre with a big rig is $$$$$.............. So, check.

Veebyes, remember it is almost 600 miles from Argentia back to Port Aux Basque, so factor your fuel cost and a couple nights lodging into the equation. Not sure how much more it costs for the long ferry vs the shorter one. Where you have some time constraints it might be worthwhile to consider. Right now diesel is running about $1.17/litre, regular is about $1.02. We opted for the short ferry both ways due to the fact we travel with our pup, and they can't be attended to in the rig during the crossing, unless you rent a kennel on deck (not worth it).ST

You're right. Most CG's open May long weekend or just before.

A month would be a good amount of time here. What kinds of things are you looking at doing? What are your interests? Do you like music festivals, history, golf, hiking etc.?

One thing I am finding is that the season starts late up that way. Many CGs from ME on up do not open till mid May.

Was planning on crossing to NL near beginning of June. Hmmmm. Weather might be an issue. Don't mind the cold. Don't like cold & rain together. Want to do a month on NL but have a music festival back on NS to make the first weekend of July & need to be back in MD by end of 3rd weekend of July so there are some date restrictions.

At 55' long we are going to do the short ferry each way. For us that will be over $500 each way.

Hi Veebyes! We spent just over a month in Newfoundland this past June/July. Wanted to see 3 things - icebergs, puffins, and Viking Heritage - success on all 3 - plus so much more!

Arrived about June 12 via "short" ferry North Sydney to Port aux Basques - reserved about a month ahead of time - no trouble getting a spot. Waited until we actually got to NL before making ferry reservation back - still about a month ahead of time and no issue again.

Stock up in North Sydney - no "big box stores" until you get up to Corner Brook. Spent 2 nights at Codroy RV in Doyles, then 4 nights at Gros Morne RV in Rocky Harbour. It was cold and rainy most of those days, so wanted electric hookups for heater. Visited Gros Morne NP from there - great boat trip on Western Brook Pond - make a reservation before you go!

Then up to St Anthony area for Lanse aux Meadows UNESCO Viking settlement site. Expect "Boil Water" orders at most CG's in NL - most rely on surface water vs. drilled wells. We added bleach to water jugs to sanitize instead. Northland Discovery boat tours out of St. Anthony was nice for icebergs and whales. PLENTY of icebergs to see while we were visiting the Province - no need to arrive any earlier than we did.

Roads off Trans-Canada Hiway tended to be pretty rough...

King's Point has a little gem in the Whale Pavillion! Worth the visit!!!

La Scie, Twillingate, Bonavista all have nice features to visit. Heart's Content, north of Bay Roberts, has another gem in the trans-atlantic telegraph cable station. Skerwink Trail in Port Rexton is a nice hike, puffin viewing site in Elliston is a must-see. 3 nights at Blue Fin RV then 3 nights at Pippy Park visiting St Johns and surrounding area.

Bird Rock south of St Marys for Gannetts, stay at Sunset RV in Argentia, and fort at Castle Hill is good. Many take "long" ferry back to North Sydney from here, we drove back to Port aux Basques, with another stop near Gros Morne at Water's Edge RV in Woody Point - watched whales right from our window!

There are loads of fetivals here to enjoy. There is the Deer Lake Strawberry festival in late July, the Lewisporte Mussel Bed Soiree, in early August, the the Twilingate Fish, Food and Folk festival in late July and the Brigus Blueberry Festival also in early August to name a few. To help come up with in an itinerary check out the websites for towns, most have dates for their respective festivals.

For more ideas look for a book titled "Newfoundland and Labrador Book of Musts". It is put out by Macintyre/Purcell Publishing.

Yep, keep your eyes open. Yes, there are places where you're not supposed to do it, but follow the usual guideline - ask the locals.

This photo is actually in Labrador, near the coast, a little gravel drive off the regular route.

BTW lived there 24.5 years.

Also, remember L'Anse aux Meadows and Norsted.

Most rv parks here are relatively cheap compared to the mainland. And of course there is the famous NL hospitality to enjoy, when staying at a park.
