- Talleyho69ModeratorLike we all haven't had that issue.
What about when you stick your hand in your pocket to pull out a bill, and tear it in half? We've had that happen several times. We just go into the next bank we walk by, smile, and present the two pieces. If it's a female teller, I have him do it, if it's a male, I do it. Always get a sympathetic smile, and get taken care of quickly.
It's a great country, but old "habits/rules" die hard. - robatthelakeExplorerI have to agree with daveB110 on the Shopkeepers attitude! They do seem to have issues with notes that have too many wrinkles or a torn corner!
If it came from a Bank Machine it should be a non issue!
I say Should be ..not Isn't! - daveB110ExplorerMexican shop keepers are very particular. A small tear can mean some day, out on the road, used to using ATM's, you will be down to that torn bill. Sorry senor, you need real money to buy that sandwich...
- pomsplusExplorerTried to use one of the non polymer bills and it was refused - date on bill was 2007. Was told to take it to bank, haven't tried it yet though.

THANKS! That answers the question!! - briansueExplorerI think you need to define old and new peso. They did change about 20 years ago and those prior to then were the old pesos and then they issued new pesos called nuevo pesos. But now the nuevo peso has been more or less phased out and they just have pesos again. A few years ago I found a website that explained it all. There are pictures and dates. Now they have done some recent redesigns of the old new pesos so there are now two designs of some of the current pesos. But they are mostly still good.
Here's a tip. Hacienda Contreras said they are good. If they say so then you can carve it in stone.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mexican_peso - robatthelakeExplorerThose are Both The New Currency and have equal Value! The Old Pesos haven't been in circulation for a very long time!
The Bottom one is just the Newest of the New Series!
It is ...like the Canadian Currency now printed on a polymer material to try to prevent counterfeiters from making copies!
A 100 Peso Note is worth about $8.80 at the current rate of exchange! - Old-BiscuitExplorer IIIOld pesos are no longer accepted by stores or retail banks......they can be exchanged for current value at the BANK OF MEXICO.
Current valve for old $100 peso.......$.10 peso (On January 1, 1993 Mexico re-based its currency, removing three zeroes from all denominations and launching the New Peso)
Yes they have some value...........but if you don't have a bunch of $50,000/$100,000 pesos not worth time/effort to travel to BANK OF MEXICO - hacienda_contreExplorerBoth are still valid. The older one is the larger one, but not old enough to be worthless yet. I spent both today.
- Eve_SteveExplorerWhich one of the pictured notes is the new?
