Parkersburg,WV back to Sacramento,Ca

Leaving 10/15 to Sacramento driving our Damon Escaper Diesel Motorhome towing a 2009 Honda CRV. Any recommendations for the best route and weather that we may encounter? Any suggestions where to stay over the night would really be appreciated. We will be traveling with our 3 month old granson. Thanks for any suggestions that are made.
  • I would work my way up to I 70 all the way to Denver then pickup I 25 north to Cheyenne, WY then I 80 west all the way to Sacramento if they are calling for nice weather.
  • All depends on the weather. The current 10 day forecast for the US has mostly sun for the next couple of days, but then some thunderstorms in the Midwest and Rockies. Doesn't look like any snow but that's the 10 day forecast and you aren't leaving for four days. If you want the most direct route I'd pick up I-80 and take it all the way to Sacramento. But if it looks like snow I'd head South. I bought tire cables for my motorhome, but it's only for emergencies as I'd never drive my motorhome in snow on purpose.
  • we've been twice but not in October. Depends on whether you're in a hurry or have plenty of time. I would head as far south as you have time for. I-77 south to I-81 to I-40 and watch the weather as you go a few days ahead. Once you decide the route we can help with stops. On I-40 there is a KOA at Clinton TN about 6.5 hours from Parkersburg and they have level pull thrus. Be sure to check to make sure the RV parks are still open and whether they have water. 2nd stop could be Tom Sawyer's RV Park in West Memphis Arkansas. Third stop KOA Checotah-Lake Eufaula at Checotah, OK. Next we like Oasis RV Park in Amarillo TX. Check the weather before you go thru Flagstaff. Just some options if you take the southern route. Have a safe trip!
