  • Had some issues w Redhawk and had to make two detours one of which was at manufacturer...but we are on the road again!... Passing thru Illinois now... I guess just wondering if rt 80 or 70 or 76 have an issues for Rv's?
  • Have reservations where you plan to stay in SD. I'm familiar with the parks there. Be happy to help if you have questions.

IMHO, for this to be FUN, and Memorable you need a much better PLAN.

Look this over as a similar trip just well planed and done year after year.

I'm one who has been traveling back and forth across the US all my life and the key to successful excursions is to have a good Plan. Does not mean you are/it is, set in stone, but that you know what you want to do and plan around it.

If I were you I'd work away from the Coast to Coast drive and focus on the sights in the Middle - Mt Rushmore - Glacier - Yellowstone - Tetons and Colorado. Next trip run to Cali and do the coast and the Nation parks there. 28 days will fly by.

Think about it - with a solid Plan you will never forget it, especially with the Kids.

Sounds like one leg of the trip may well take you near St. Louis. With kids assuming they are not toddlers, I'd suggest taking a day at the St Louis City Museum. This would be doubly good if it happens to be a leg where you're otherwise driving straight through, as it breaks up the long span a little bit.

The City Museum is an entirely unique place, more a giant playground/jungle gym/interactive art project as a museum in the traditional sense.

The Ohio Turnpike has a few rest areas with overnight RV facilities at a reasonable price. If you end up with an overnight in that general area, one of them might work out very well. I would not complain at all if more states did something like that.
  • With the time constraints Google the fastest route to Denver,
From Denver and explore Colorado going West on I 70. Continue on I70 to I15 in Utah and take I15 to Zion area. From Zion go to the Grand Canyon if you have time do the North Rim and South Rim. From Grand Canyon Google map the fastest route San Diego and then Google the fastest route back to Vermont
  • Have 4 weeks to get there and back. Thinking of getting west quickest way with dry camping in lots/rest areas along the way... On way back open to any and all suggestions. Want to hit Colorado, Zion area, Grand Canyon. Anything else is a bonus!
  • Use Google maps or another mapping site to get directions. See if the recommended route takes you near any locations you want to visit.
You will get multiple opinions on which route to take, none will be wrong.

It's up to you to decide what you want to see or how quickly you want to get to San Diego.

If you give us more info you will probably get better advice.
  • Are you going this summer or this winter? Do you want to get there fast for an event or is the trip the main event? How many days do you have to do this?
