No, you're very unlikely to have a tire problem.
I have one year old Michelin tires on my coach ? Do I really need to take a spare on a trip to Alaska ?
Could happen in which case you'll have some down time. Most of us can't change the tires anyway due to their size, weight, etc. And I sure don't want to use storage space for one of those big tires.
The Alaska trip is about driving for the road conditions which generally means slower. Met a guy that blew over a railroad track - 2 tires easy fix but he was in day 19 repairing the bent 5er hitch. - Dick_BExplorerThe obvious answer to your question is NO.
But I carry two spares no matter where we go and incorporate them into the tire rotation every two years. Refer to www.michelinrvtires.com - americanrascalExplorerI did the trip last year in a truck camper and made it fine- but absolutely carried a spare. All that said I would and will not drive the Alaska Highway without a spare. In suspect you have a very good shot at making it safely with 1 yr old Michelins-- but one never knows and the Alaska Highway is much more intense than anything we experience in the south
We are headed up to Anchorage on the Alaska Highway from west GA again the first week of July and I am carrying a mounted spare for the moho, a mounted spare for the tow dolly, and a donut for the toad.
While I will do my best to attempt to use ERS, I just don't want to be caught a long way from communication capabilities, any help, support or tire resources and not be prepared. The condition of the road and distance between services and resources does warrant the extra measure of preparedness. - IvylogExplorer IIIWhat size 22.5? I carry a used unmounted tire on my roof as cheap insurance if I cannot find a tire in a reasonable time and at a reasonable price. You should be able to find a used one for less than $100. Wrap it in Alum Foil and plastic and if you put it around a vent in the middle of the roof (no need to fasten it down) you do need to put a short piece of hose under it so it does not create a damn and water in the vent.
- OutdoorPhotograExplorerI've had a blowout on a trailer before. I lost a day trying to replace my spare near Yellowstone. I now travel with two spares. I now know sun exposure probably caused the blowout on a 3 year old tire but I still feel better with two spares. Of course, easy to throw extra spare in back of truck compared to stowage in an RV.
- icanonExplorerHave never been to Alaska but I won't take a chance without one. I would take a chance if driving near cities and towns but not out in no man's land.
