To Chimacum from Woodland Washington

So this drive is from south I5 (near Vancouver WA) to Port Townsend (or just south of that).

I5 to Olympia, and 101 up the Hood Canal is the most obvious, main route. But 101 follow a shore, so is somewhat curvy.

3 from Shelton to Bremerton is strighter. But 3 from there to Poulsbo is suburban freeway. Then the floating Hood Canal bridge and a good grade up on 104.

I can see going either way.

We've stayed at the Chimacum park many times and have taken the two routes. If you have plenty of time take 5 to 12 to Hoquiam then 101 around the Peninsula. There's not much traffic but you will be driving through forest for many miles from Hoquiam to at least Forks. You could stop at Forks RV and check out the rain forest of Olympic Nat'l Park - nice flat walking and interesting. Then continue on 101 east to Chimacum.

It really isn't too bad to take I-5 to Tacoma and then 16/3 north. It's more scenic but also more traffic but not too bad.

Flip a coin! Remember summer doesn't start until July 5 in that area. :)

We never liked taking 101 from Olympia north to Shelton, Hoodsport, Brinnon, Quilcene. The road is kind of narrow and curvy and the trucks drive fast.

That's interstate 5 to 16 to 3 to Beaver.

I5 to 16 to 3 then turn north on BEAVER VALLEY ROAD straight to chimacum.
Good road all the way. Truckers use it.

I would recommend I-5 directly to 101. You will have some traffic in Olympia, but not enough to take the extra miles on 12/8/108. The extra miles would not be worth it to me.

Avoid Tacoma on a Saturday. I-5 through Tacoma is not something I would do on a Saturday if I had a shorter option.

Also 101 will be more scenic along Hood Canal.

Roads should be fine. No current travel alerts for 101.

i prefer 101 it follows hoods canal most of the way there, it is slower but much more scenic,it is a beautiful area enjoy

I've stayed in many. Yuma, Deming, Pahrump, Livingston.. et al.

Just going down memory lane here.. I installed my first inverter with many parts from the Hadlock True Value store..just down the road. Nice little shopping area in there.

We checked it out last year when we were in Anacortes, but we ferried over, so don't know the best South to North route. It is a beautiful park. Gotta just love the SKP parks!

Looking at 5 to 101 also, since it keeps us skirting Olympia, and away from Tacoma.
