Keep in mind that data roaming and voice call roaming may be covered under separate roaming plan and charge rates. I can get voice and text for next to nothing, but data is measured in per megabyte and costs a lot.

Data roaming is VERY costly in Canada and you have to rmember to Shut Data Off when you get close to the border. - cdbinnsExplorerIf you have aT Mobile device, it appears that there are no roaming charges in Canada or in many other countries. We do not yet have a T Mobile plan, but we are planning a trip to Alaska this summer and are seriously considering getting a T Mobile hotspot for the trip. We have Verizon currently. They have a fairly reasonable roaming plan for voice and text, but their data roaming costs are very high. It looks like we can get a T Mobile device without a contract. T Mobile uses the same technology as ATT, so I suspect the coverage would be the same.

Brian - amandasgrammaExplorerMy SIL went to Australia and added that "intnl" bit to her phone. :) Worked beautifully for keeping us updated on her whereabouts. :)
- CroweExplorerMoral of the story - check with ATT before you cross the border and see if you can get a similar deal.
You can add international dialing for a fee for just the timeframe you are gone. No roaming charges, just the flat fee. We did it when we were in Denmark and Iceland and it was far less expensive than paying the per call fees. No stressing over whether or not to call because of the cost. - bob_nestorExplorer IIIA number of years ago I had ATT and was in Canada on business for a couple of days. I made a few calls back to the States. My ATT roaming charges were about $200! I found out later that ATT has an option that you can purchase for roaming in Canada for about $30 for 60 days of service. Luckily they were willing to backdate the plan for me to cover the roaming charges.

Check with your service provider for your details, they have a ton of plans that you might be subscribed to. In general, ATT would roam on the Roger's LTE network, so you can google that for coverage details. Roger's LTE is a good data network for Canada, might not be as good as US 4G data networks.
