- DrbolaskyExplorerUse Rt. 14. We passed this way on June 30 back in 2004. No snow in Granite Pass but as others have said the weather in this part of the country can throw just about anything at you at any time. Be careful, take your time and enjoy the scenery.
- 2gypsies1Explorer IIIHwy 16 out of Buffalo is, indeed, o.k. for RVers.
- hitchikermanExplorerI am also headed to YNP in July. I have a fifthwheel and want to take highway 16 out of Buffalo. I e-mailed a campground near ten sleep wy called Broek and they said many trailers travel this route. I also e-mailed the state travel agency and they said highway 16 is best way to go when your towing a trailer.

This would be going east to west on Hwy 14-A over the

Don't recall seeing the sign but I do REMEMBER the DRIVE......
That's a case where they paved a Goat Path.
Beautiful area just need to be comfortable with the conditions and your abilities.
The night we drove it we saw the Northern Lights, we were not in a hurry and not going very fast, wished it had taken longer as it was unbelievably beautiful. (Kids have never forgiven me for not getting them up - 2:00AM - after a long day leaving YNP)
BOL, - Jim_ShoeExplorerI've driven 14 and 14a, but the MH was parked in a CG and I was driving the Jeep Wrangler "Toad". When I did it, there were a couple of hairpin turns where I swear I could see my rear license plate through my front windshield. :)

Planing on taking US 14 & 14A through the Big Horn Mts in mid June. Will we see any snow?
It depends but highly likely. I went through the Bighorns July 8-9,2011 and had to drive over snowdrifts to get into Porcupine CG which officially opened the next day. So much snow at the Medicine Wheel I could not hike to see it. The elevation up there is close to 10,000 feet most places.
Agree about 14A, especially the West side, unless you are quite familiar with mountain driving. It's a real bear going up or down. I've done both. - CarryOnExplorerThis would be going east to west on Hwy 14-A over the

- 2gypsies1Explorer IIIIt's not recommended that you drive 14A. You will encounter 5, 7, 8, and 10% grades for many miles.
Hwy 14 also has 5-7% grades.
If you're around Buffalo, WY then Hwy 16 is a better alternative. Then head north on 16/20 to Greybull. Stay there and make a day trip in your vehicle of a circular drive on 14 and 14A. It's a beautiful drive but not in a RV.
If you're planning Yellowstone you could then take 20 west to Cody (an awesome museum) and then into the east entrance of Yellowstone.
If you're going to do a lot of western mountains, I'd recommend purchasing online the 'Mountain Directory West' for Trucker & Rvers. It will give you good details on what to expect. We love mountain driving but we always check them out before. - jrpExplorerIf you're driving a larger RV, I would avoid hwy 14A.
Hwy 14 itself is a good road and will take you over Granite Pass, just over 9,000 ft elevation. In mid June there may still be some residual snow laying on shaded north facing slopes. New snow at 9000 ft in mid June isn't normal, but freak storms can drop snow in the high country any month of the year. - Corky12ExplorerMaybe, maybe not. Weather patterns in northern plains states have been unusual this winter due to El Nino. Hard to predict what will happen in the next 4 months.
