Except for when is at a virtual standstill. Us locals use the side roads, especially if northbound, from about 3-5pm. - IDoMyOwnStuntsExplorer

I have that happen on my commute to work all the time in my car. I do the speed limit (sometimes slightly above), stay in the right lane, and for some stupid reason drivers want to tailgate ME to get around the people blocking them on the left. It's infuriating, but I just have to take a deep breath, slow down a little (just a couple of mph and I would never brake check) so I'm not pacing the left lane campers if needed, and let them finally figure it out. I shouldn't have to adjust my speed at all in the right lane. I'm where I'm supposed to be.
In my truck, I don't even worry about it. It's stupid that sometimes I can only see the top of the roof of the guy behind me. I'd be really mad if they hit my hitch if I had to do an emergency stop. - W4RLRExplorerI think that if drivers were properly trained instead of our current system of getting a drivers license out of a Cracker Jack box the highways could support speeds of 80 miles per hour in rural areas. Of course towing a recreational vehicle at that speed would be unsafe. But single cars and trucks could operate at those speeds. Having lived in Germany for a few years, where the native population has to go through a two year drivers training process to get a license, such speeds are safe as the drivers are properly trained and disciplined. Left lane banditry is highly discouraged and a citable offense. Running out of fuel is also a citable offense. Here in the states, I think that the road system has in places a lower speed limit than the roads were designed for simply to increase revenue from traffic citations.

- aerbus32Explorer III'll be in the minority here, but I think it's about time Cal started enforcing its speed limits. Just yesterday my brother, starting at 8am, drove his truck (not towing) south on l15 starting in Apple Valley. This includes the stretch of Cajon Pass where ongoing construction is occurring. Speed limits are reduced to 60 with warnings posted that fines will be doubled. He had his cruise control set on 78 the entire way & was still being routinely passed. I came up from the Temecula area to meet him in Redlands. Most of my freeway driving was on the 10. I always try to drive the posted speed limit. Doing so in the right lane, I kept having cars come roaring up on me to get around traffic in the left lanes. That is just not safe. Sure wish the CHP would enforce the posted speed limits.
- SCVJeffExplorerNVP has been no BS on the speed limits coming into town from the west for years. It's not uncommon to see several vehicles lined up getting tickets by the same cruiser. That road is also famous for epic accidents, especially with tour buses.

No, the most boring stretches of highway in the West are I-5 through the Central Valley north of Grapevine and I-10 in western New Mexico. - donkeydewExplorerat least they are not putiing a cruiser in the middle lane at 55 with no passing it. during the gas crunch this became the slowest highway in the west and the most boring
- Old-BiscuitExplorer IIII drove a stretch of that for 6 yrs .....seemed like it was twice a year routine.
Revenue - Searching_UtExplorerSeems most of the time when I hit that section between CA and Vegas the traffic is generally so bumper to bumper you can't really set your own speed. Can't wait till I retire and can start timing some of my trips to where they don't correspond so much to everyone else's weekend and holiday travel.
