- navegatorExplorerYou can bring a bag of dog food medium size, there are dog food products in Mexico some manufactured in country others imported, your electronic devices are ok to bring since they are personal items, you can accses the web site from Secretaria de Hacienda, Aduanas, articulos de importacion prohibidos, they have an english version and have the forbiden items of the month.
Dog food can be purchased at Walmarts, Chedrauii, Comercial Mexicana and pet stores in the major Cities, not in small towns.
navegator - nifty250ExplorerWe're going to San Felipe in February. It's our very first trip into Baja and trying to figure out what we can have with us is driving me crazy. Too much information and some of it is old and probably out of date.
Where can I find a comprehensive list of what we can bring with us in our RV? I keep getting referred to http://senasica.gob.mx but it's in Spanish.
Dog food is the most confusing. If you can't take it into the country, and you can't take meat or rice into the country, what the heck do you feed them until you can get to a grocery store?
And electronics - we want to bring our phones, a kindle, an iPad, and a handheld GPS. We also have a good camera. Will we have to pay duty?
Can you only bring in $300 worth of stuff? What about all the household items in the RV?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. - KidooExplorerOk, thanks, will try to eat things in the fridg before we get in, we still have a couple of weeks.
- Talleyho69ModeratorIt's all about moderation. Everything you bring in should look like it belongs, and don't point it out. An RV freezer full of "stuff" is usually fine. If you have a large box full of interesting things in the middle of your vehicle that might be tripped over, it may be interesting to Aduana, just like crossing any border.
Like anywhere, smile, don't do anything other than answer questions, and be agreeable. - navegatorExplorerWhatever you guys do DO NOT BRING GUNS OR AMMO in to Mexico, depends on what flavor month it is meat ia a no-no then next month it will be citrus fruit, or something else, it is hard to tell, we crossed with five botles of liquor, asorted flavors and 6 bottles of wine, frozen Swedish meat bals, 8 pakets they did not say anything, faucets for the kitchen and bathroom, and all the light fixtures, two sets of pots and pans, an oven other than the one in the RV, at least one spice of evdry kind that you can not find in Mexico, all they did was X-Ray to the RV and the toad, same as last year and then we were on our way.
Aduaneros work in misterious ways.
navegator - Talleyho69ModeratorSimilares is the best!
Ripped off a toenail surfing on Monday, for 50p she cleaned it up, gave me a prescription for antibiotics if I need them, and sent me on my way.
We couldn't have bandaged it, cleaned it, etc. for that! - navegatorExplorerMost of the Farmacias Similares have a doctor in house, and if you need a prescription filled, pay the 50.00 pesos and get the prescription filled, they also have Monday specials and other days they have other medicine on special.
If you have the prescription in English, go to the Doctor next door and they will tell you what the equivalent is in Spanish or generic, if you do not have the prescription, do not throw the botle or box away, they can figure out what medicine you need by the lable.
navegator - TripalotExplorerI would make sure I had any medications that might be necessary if you are staying for an extended time. On one of our trips I was looking for over the counter meds. All the packaging was in Spanish and I had difficulty deciding what to buy. Whatever it was that I bought turned out to be for children.
This was in a smaller town and I could not find someone who understood English well enough to assist me. - Talleyho69ModeratorThe official list is available on line.
There are very very few things you can't get in Mexico now days. Our attitude is that if we have to do without something (dill pickles, often) we appreciate them even more when we return to our home country!
Part of the fun of traveling in a foreign country is finding new, sometimes strange things to try. If we had all of our usual goodies, we'd be less likely to try the more exotic things.
