Hi Dale. Detroit Greenfield - haven't been there in probably 15 yrs but at that time it was a very typical KOA on a small lake. Wouldn't be my fave but would do in a pinch. Never been to the fairgrounds.
You might consider Sterling State Park on Lake Erie. Haven't scoped out the miles but think it is within or close to your parameters. Nice park. Newish. Straight south on US 23 to Dundee and then east to Monroe. Modern CG with 50 amp. It would be my choice for a relaxing weekend. If you're just looking for a day/nite and gone, and want dry camping, consider Cabelas in Dundee. Formal RV overnight parking in the rear - nice and quiet and restaurants and of course Cabelas within easy walking distance.
Another possibility on the outside edge of your criteria, would be Waterloo Portage SP east of Jackson. It would be on your route from your present location to A2. Sharon and I used to weekend there a lot in the fall and it was a great place. Course that was probably 25-30 yrs ago so I can't vouch for it now. But it was a very nice cg with full hookups and large sites, many with lake views.
North of A2 along US 23 you won't find much. If I remember right, there is a membership cg just off 23 west of Pontiac. It may be within your mileage criteria but with traffic, it would be a long slog.
How's your back doing?
Thanks for the suggestions, Allen. WE have looked at Sterling. Kind of thinking of Haas Lake at New Hudson,Indian Creek at Tecumsah, Detroit Greenfield or Wayne Co Fairgrounds. Detroit Greenfield is no longer a KOA but gets decent reviews. Not going to boondock because we will have our 3 year old granddaughter with us and would like something with a playground as well. I don't think the FG has any amenities.
Back is better. I'm now able to back off on the pain killers. What a ride. I really have to say I wasn't quite expecting what I got. But it's all good. So far all the sciatica and other various nerve pain seems to be history. My limp is fading fast. We walk 1.5 miles every morning and I don't start a slight limp till after the first mile. My hip pain has receded. Haven't felt the bursitis. The hip pain was all from the rotation of my hip with the limp to compensate for being able to move my leg forward. Anxious to see what the next few weeks/months mean for me. Hope it all continues to improve.
Thanks again!
Dale
