Beach Camping in the East

Here are my recomendations: Assategue national park. We liked the baysdie section C. No hookups but some trees and grass. Huntington Beach SP in South Carolina.Open and shaded sites with water and electric,some FHU.Kiptopeke SP in Va. Full hookups. Short walk to beach.Outter Banks Frisco NP. Isolated sites within walking distance to beach.

With a group the size of yours, I'd want amenities too.

Anything on the NC Outer Banks with hookups will have a direct ocean view blocked by dunes (unless Matthew has taken them down :(). The KOA and Camp Hatteras in Rodanthe have soundside sites with a 300-400 yard walk to the ocean. Frisco Woods, further south below the Hattera Light, also has sites on the sound but the ocean is too far to walk to. I'm less familiar with the area between Emerald Isle and Wilmington but don't think there's anything there either.

Assateague is well worth it. That said it's almost impossible to book a w/e site.
We booked 365 days in advance for 4 nights and had to split on 2 different w/e sites, everything was just about grabbed.

I second Assateague in Maryland and the State park part, not the National Park. We just spent a long weekend there in August on a non electric site, but with the steady ocean breeze and nice size canopy, we were good to go. Oh and with 360 watts of solar!!

Assateague State Park in Maryland is on the ocean (just south of Ocean City), and since the campground is separated from the day-use area, the beach is just for the relatively few campers - almost a private beach. Only 1 loop has electric (water available at dump station). The dunes block the ocean view, but that's pretty much the case everywhere. Need to reserve a year ahead of time, generally. The adjacent National Park is nice, but no hookups or hot water in the bathouses.

37 Ft TT pulled by a 15 passenger van. No desire to boondock. Traveling with 11 kids and a dog so I really prefer full hookup but GISP had just E/W and that worked out okay.

There are some oceanfront CG on the Outer Banks, But only two that I know of between the Outer Banks and Myrtle beach. Surf city on Top Sail Island. It is very small but has a great beach. Below that, There is one at Holden Beach Pier as well. Very small as well. Not much at either one of them. Just a place to setup at the beach
