Boone NC campgrounds

I read that the KOA is about the best cg in Boone but also one certain section not to stay in. My TT is 34ft long need full hookups & 30 amp. Is there a specific site number I should ask to get? July 25th weekend.
  • No pool at Honey Bear, had one but it's been filled in. Terryallan is right about the sites. We have stayed twice in C4 with friends in C3. Last time we were there over the 4’Th of July we ran the AC only a few hours a day. They are 30 amp sites, but have very good shade. If I couldn't get C1-4 I would take C27-29, across the road. Not on the creek like 1-4 but large and level with shade and sewer

The Boone KOA is 5 miles from downtown Boone. About a 12 minute drive. Same for Flintrock and Honey Bear. Not far at all.

We have only stayed at the KOA (twice)I would recommend staying in rows C-G...H is ok, but when you get over to I, the sites get very narrow and the road to campsite can be washed out some. The first time we stayed in row I with the 35' TT we had. It was not a good place to be. I want to say it was site I6 or I7. The second time we stayed, it was around the G/H 4 area. Much better. When I called them to make the reservation, I asked them specifically not to be put in the I section and explained my concerns. They were very good about it. When I got there to check in, I walked down to the spot (2nd stay) first to see how it was. And it was ok. You mentioned going in July. KOA does have a pool, if that matters. I didn't see it mention it on the other two campground websites. The KOA also offers some kid activities as well. But of course, more than likely a little higher priced than the other two. WE will have to give the other 2 a try out this year for a weekend.

    At Honey Bear. C 1- 2 - 3 and 4 are the best sites. However D4 - 3- 2 - 1 are built for Motorhomes.

    Hey wbwood. None are paved.:W

The KOA has no pavement in it either. Lol

We walked the KOA. We didn't much care for it. We have stayed in Honey Bear. Liked it. And walked Flintlock. Liked it as well

BTW The turn off the main road onto the KOA road, Has a Log Cabin in the corner, right kinda in front of that business. That cabin belonged to DW's Great Grand Pa. He built it over 100 years ago. Her family still owns it, and she is part owner in the lot beside of it. If we could get it. I'm thinkin we could put a small parks model on it. But being right there on the busy road might not be fun.

We are going the 3rd week in April, it will be cool enough then for a little heat. In the summer months it is very comfortable with the windows open and if you get a creek site you listen to the water.

Thanks, Maybe we'll see you there this summer.

Actually there are several good CGs in the area. The ones closer to Boone, and easier to get to, are Honey Bear, and Flintlock. The KOA is a good bit out of town.

Also the KOA sites are hilly. I would go with Honey Bear, or Flintlock.
And the very best CG in the area is Raccoone Holler in Glendale Springs, Maybe 30 min up the Blue ridge Parkway from Boone.
You must call any of those before you show up. Esspecially Honey Bear, and Raccoone Holler
    X2 We love Flintlock

We have toured Flintlock, and like it a lot. But never got to stay. Just wondering how cool it gets there at night in the summer?
