Our 911 is for all calls. I called the Sheriffs business number to report a disabled combine in the traffic lane and was told to call 911. I responded that it was not really an emergency but I just wanted to advise them of a situation.
I was told that anything that requires a response by any first responder is a 911 call.
I'm throwing the BS flag. If anyone told you that they told you wrong. 911 is for emergency calls.
Go to www.911.gov. Read the link on the webpage titled "Usng 911 Appropriately". It explains the purpose of 911 for emergency use. For routine calls for service use the dept's regular phone number.

WHEN TO CALL 911 (per 911.gov website)
Examples include:
A fire
A crime, especially if in progress
A car crash, especially if someone is injured
A medical emergency, such as someone who is unconscious, gasping for air or not breathing, experiencing an allergic reaction, having chest pain, having uncontrollable bleeding, or any other symptoms that require immediate medical attention
Important: If you’re not sure whether the situation is a true emergency, officials recommend calling 911 and letting the call-taker determine whether you need emergency help.
Note:
A Crime.........doesn't distinguish level/severity of A CRIME
Is it time for your medication or mine?
If someone is unable to determine that cutting a tree is not an emergency then they need more than meds. Meds won't correct common sense.
You need to read the entire website info, not just cherry pick the info ttying make your point. Since you obviously missed it here's the very first line from 911.gov "Using 911 Appropriately".
"Since 911 was introduced in 1968 as a universal number for reaching emergency assistance". I'll highlight it again. Note the "emergency assistance".
Really now. Cutting down a tree is an emergency? Gee, you must have lived a really protective life if that's a big emergency requiring immediate police response.
If you want people to use 911 to report all the routine stuff then don't complain when you need an ambulance or your house is on fire and you can't get thru to 911 because someone doesn't have the common sense to know that cutting down a tree isn't an emergency that could have been handled by calling the regular police number.
People continue to prove that common sense isn't common.
