Colorado Springs need info

Our daughter and son-in-law will be moving to Colorado Springs. He's retired from AF, but will be working at Peterson AFB.

Of course, we would like recommendations for RV parks in the area!

Also, if anyone here lives in Colorado Springs or nearby, I would appreciate any information about the area...they plan to rent a house, and maybe in a smaller town around there.

Thanks.

  • Mountaindale RV is south of Colorado Springs.west of Ft. Carson. One of the nicest places we've stayed. WIFi was good and cable Tv. Beautiful grounds.

I stayed there once. Couldn't stand the noise from US 24 which is less then 100 yds.from the campground. It is a small campground with lots of permanent rigs so maneuvering is needed.

As for Garden of the Gods, we have stayed there a lot over the years and early on we liked it. But as our rig got bigger and our tolerance for noise diminished we looked elsewhere.

The suggestion about the Air Force Academy makes sense, wish we could use it.

Lately we have stayed in Woodland Park. Bristlecone Lodge and Diamond campgrounds are decent and not on a major highway.

Cheyenne Mountain is the state park mentioned earlier. It is very nice and gets high ratings by most. We need internet access which most state parks don't have so we have never stayed there.

Mountaindale C.G. is our favorite as it is far off of the highway and in the forest. But it is 15 miles form Colorado Springs so the drive may be a concern. Enjoy!!

  • Ask your son in law to sponsor you into the fam camp atthe Air Force Academy.
  • We've always liked Garden of the Gods Campground. We did stay at a state park across from Ft Carson, but did not care for it much.. They wanted to charge visitors just to come in and visit us..

We won't do that again.. Plus they parked us and a place surrounded by shrubs and bushes.. We had a view of nothing.. Just did not care for it..

Being retired from the AF makes him and certain dependents eligible to use the FamCamp at the AF Academy in CS. You can probably qualify to use it.

We were the guests of a retired Army Warrant Officer and stayed there two summers ago. We had a full hook up site - nothing real fancy, but it's clean, well maintained and quite.

You enter and leave thur a manned gate, but no problems with the proper ID.
