Comments on Lake City Campground, Lake City Fl. Or others?

Needing a safe quiet overnight stop.. Will be coming southeast down I-10 then to 75 however not seeing much to choose from around the I-10/75 intersection. Would rather not unhook so prefer level paved sites. F150 and 24' trailer so we don't need much space but do have driver side slide. Anything to compare to Lake City Campground I might have missed?

Also, any comments on heading down 441 from Lake City to get back on 75 instead of backtracking? Good roads? Construction?

Ultimate destination is Alafia State Park for a week of baseball spring training.
Woo hoo !!!

Thanks for your help.

We went on to Lake City and got the Passport America rate at Oak 'N Pines RV Campground at the intersection of 441 and I-10. It was nice and the folks running the place friendly. We ended up staying two nights. Apparently it is now called Lake City RV Resort and under new management. Road noise didn't bother us. But since it is no longer PA, I'd look at other locations.

Departing and heading south on I-75.

I drove down US-441 during the extra day, and decided too many stoplights and too much local traffic in the morning. Plus a lot of school traffic. It was easier and much faster to take I-10 back to I-75 South, only about 6 extra miles driving.

We just spent a week at Lake City RV Resort. Not a bad place and I'd go back.

We left in the late morning (maybe 11am) at the same time as friends. We took 441 and they took I-10. We made it to I-75 faster than they did. But, he ultimately blew past me as he drives a fair bit faster than I do.

If you are headed down I-75, a better stop would be Casey Jones RV Park at exit 423 just south of Lake City. It is close to the exit and is a nice park for an overnight.

As mentioned above the old Oaks n' Pines off of I-10 is now the Lake City RV Resort and is no longer Passport America which was its only strong point. A better selection along I-10 at the same exit is the Lake City Campground just a little farther north. It is a much nicer campground but is way out of the way if you are headed south down I-75.
I really hate that Oaks 'N Pines is no longer in business. We always made that our last stop before going on to Jacksonville (Mayport) Fla. We have plans made to go there in May and I guess will do the Lake City Campground now. Thanks for the info.
  • Thanks for all the suggestions... Made reservations at Lake City Campground due to long paved pull throughs. This will suit our overnight needs very well. Looking forward to the trip..

Take SR 136 east from I-75 to the state park at white springs. You'll also pass a private one just before crossing the river. From there you can either go back to I-75 or pick up 441 in Lake City via 41 from the SP

Stephen Foster State park on US 41 is an excellent choice. Sites 4-11 or so offer excellent camping at state park prices.

  • We messed up on the time zone change coming from Mobile (well - me - not the wife) about a year ago - and ended up locked out of the state park where we had paid reservations (arrived after dark and didn't call for the gate code).
