When I go to Deep Creek lake I stay at Deep Creek Lake State park which is located right on the lake. Great state park a little tight getting back to it but well worth it.
Honestly this is one of those times where being on the lake takes precedence over full hook ups.
I have never stayed at Double G but I have driven thru. It is located right on 219 close to the highway. Seemed like an OK place but sites were a bit tight with not a lot of trees. I do not believe there is a pool. The park has a fair amount of seasonals sites.
As I drove past Double G, I never considered staying there vs. the state park.
If full hook ups are a must GG will serve as a decent base camp, however you will have to drive to the lake and other attractions. There is not a lot of public access to the lake. Deep Creek State park provides the best public access.
As far as the alcohol goes, the policy is not enforced unless you break the rules. The No alcohol policy is an easy way to evict any rowdy campers. Behave and the policy will not be enforced.
Deep Creek is certainly one of those areas where one can limit/penalize themselves by requiring full hook ups.
Thanks for the info... I totally understand your points about the state park. We stayed there back when we tent camped and it was nice being able to have a quick ride to the beach. But, after years of tent camping, the DW and DD are not public bathhouse fans. They feel that we have all of those amenities now in the trailer and they know they are clean which I will agree with. I know from experience that the black tank in our travel trailer will go for 5-6 days but the grey tank fills up in a weekend with showers and dish washing. If the state park had a honey wagon, we could make it work but I don't think they do. So, we would have to hitch up and dump at least once or maybe twice which would be a big PITA. I really think full hookups are the best way to go for us.
I always behave ;) but we have had incidents with rangers in other state parks that, as we sat at our campsite talking with friends in the late afternoon (not being rowdy), they came up to us and wanted to know what was in our cups. Fortunately, it was not alcohol at the time. We are not big drinkers but still like to enjoy a few adult beverages in the evening around the fire without the threat of being evicted and/or getting a ticket.
