- rock077ExplorerI grew up in Gettysburg. Returned 4-5 weekends a year to camp. Have stayed at most of the CG's in G-burg.
Gettysburg Campground is the best -- no question.
The pizza shop down the road is really good.....
When you are in town, stop at Hunts Cafe on Steinweir Ave. for an ice cream sandwich on a pretzel roll..... heaven..... - RGar974417ExplorerX2 on Pine Grove Furnace.Electric hookups, brand new bath houses,2 swimming beaches, camp store. We have a 26ft TT and have no problem fitting in.
- DrbolaskyExplorerNope. Poor service is poor service - that's why we no longer go to Drummer Boy. We've stayed at several CG's that were once family-owned and were bought out by the corporate crowd. In each case costs to campers went up and neatness/cleanliness, customer relations and overall value for the money went down. 'Nuf said.
- jfkmkExplorerIt wouldn't change my recommendation. I've stayed at Gettysburg cg with just my kids, just my wife, and with both my wife and son. If you like ice cream, stop by the cannonball old time malt shop. Pretty cool there is still a embedded in the wall.
- RVcrazyExplorerWe are adults with no kids or pets. Would that change your recommendation?

Our experience was the same. We started camping at Drummer Boy in 1997 and were there almost annually. The summer of 2007 was the first season under the new "management" and was our last stay at what used to be a fine, well-run park.
We visited all of the CG's in Gettysburg some time back (visited, not stayed at) and while we liked the KOA the only reason we don't stay there is the sites IMHO are very small. In many cases once your rig is on site there was no place to put your TV.
Our current CG of choice in Gettysburg is Gettysburg CG. Clean, quiet, well-managed, and run by good people. - reinitaExplorerWe've stayed at Gettysburg Campground twice and loved it. Highly recommend staying on the sites that face the stream because they're shady, quiet and it gives the kids something to do. The playground is nice, the bathrooms old but clean; plenty of hot water. The staff was fantastic.
We booked a day trip to Washington, D.C., and also had a great time. They pick up at the campground and bring you back after a dinner stop.
The campground is in a great spot to make a bunch of day trips. I'm a runner, so I drove a few miles away and ran with gorgeous views. My DH, DS and my dad drove to the battle sites and the whole family really enjoyed the nearby museums.
We had pizza delivered from Tommy's Pizza, which was yummy. We also ate at Gettysburg's Eddie Restaurant. Typical pub grub, good service. Food was fresh, good parking right out back.
We would definitely stay here again. - ependydadExplorerNot sure how far away it is, but my all-time favorite campground is Pine Grove Furnace State Park. It is sadly, a park that I'll likely never take my camper too because it's too bit and the park is too tight. But I tent camp there once or twice a year with my dad and some friends.
- dblrExplorerWe used to like Granite Hill but since a management change there things have changed, no more GS discount, cable gone from the few sites that had it and prices going up.
- CroweExplorerDrummer Boy USED to be the preferred campground-we loved it but since new management took over, review haven't been good. We've also stayed at Artillery Ridge and Granite Hill (but it's been a number of years now). Artillery Ridge is a little more "rustic", very clean and very well run. You can also take horseback riding tours through the battlefields from there. Granite Hill has a nice pool and mini-golf course. It, too, was very clean. However, do NOT accept what they call a "post site". They are very uneven and you are a good distance from any hook-ups.
