heceta beach rv park, oregon

was surprised at this park, most of the sites are not full hookup, they are just gravel and not very wide, wifi did not work and the bathrooms were clean but not private enough. no doors on the showers.I would only give it about 3 stars out of 5. thank you.

We enjoyed staying at South Beach State Park in July. It was great.

Only one thing I found unbelievable. In that huge park there was only one dump (no sewer at sites). There was even a sign at the dump station "Other dumps available in town," so it was obvious that this was entirely inadequate. We got up early enough that it was not a problem for us, but we usually saw a line of RVs waiting to empty tanks.

So true about South Beach. Been there enough to know getting to the dump site and not being the 4-5th one in line is a******shoot. I don't know of any State parks in Oregon that have more than one dump site. Heck Detroit State park has none. The nice thing about the Oregon state parks is the dump is free even if you don't stay there.

And there probably not going to be cheap for long.http://www.oregonlive.com/travel/index.ssf/2013/07/oregon_parks_and_recreation_pr.html

  • Most state parks we have gone to have had curtins not doors on the stalls. And some are still gravel but not near as many as when we started using them back in the 60's They have been upgrading them and sure nicer. As far as cheap camping We think the 20-25 bucks a night is cheaper than any of the other private places as most are 35 to 55 per night. We can run on our tanks for 3 days even if we shower in our rig which we most always do. Hookups are not a big deal for us as long as we find a dump station on the way out. We are travelers and seldom stay more than 2 or 3 days.

I do like that they are redoing many sites and making them level as when they did pave years back it was just over the gravel and no were near level.

I enjoy not having WiFi then no need to fuss with all the e-mail ect. But then I turn my cell phone off when traveling, and stopped texting because I did not want to answer 150-200 a day. See what old age makes you do...

Of you want to have upscale camping go to a resort only cost 3-4 times as much..

Not sure which OR State Parks you are refering to, but I'm having a hard time of thinking of one that is not paved. Most of the parks showers also have doors and a lot of the facilities that have recently been upgraded have indivdual showers (Tumalo SP comes to mind here, but there are a lot more). I wouldn't call State Parks "cheap camping" either.

You are right though, none of the parks have WiFi that I know of.
  • The OP is talking about a private park, not a state park in the area called Carl Washburne State Park (which is great).

P.S. We gave the Heceta lighthouse tours at one time...definitely take the tour!!

    Correct..
The state park that is within walking distance of Heceta Head Lighthouse is Carl G. Washburne State Park.

  • We love the Oregon state parks on the coast. We will be using them again this Sept. as we head south. Easy access to the beaches, wide spaces between spots, quiet and great scenery. Prefer them far over the asphalt covered parking lots of private resorts or the overpriced KOA's!!

We use Verizon MiFi, so don't expect the state to supply wifi. With all of the trees, wouldn't work anyway.

We have the privacy of our own head and shower, so either close the door or leave it open!!:B;)

Oh well, different strokes for different folks!
