Due to the horrendous wild fires in CO, we are rethinking our 6 week vacation destination. Any ideas or input?
1. Good trout fishing - river or lake
2. Not too many biting bugs
3. Cooler temperatures
4. A good 'resort' style RV park
5. Starting from Las Vegas
Any thoughts?
Take a look at this recent post on a park in Idaho -- it looks to me if you can't catch a fish here or in the area you must have forgotten the hook.

If the place is like the pictures it fit's my description of a high mountain RESORT.

- RedRocket204ExplorerFirst pick: Tail waters of the Flaming Gorge Reservoir on the Green River. North east section of Utah and a well known and productive fishery. The place is absolutely stunning as well.
Second pick: Tail waters of the Navajo Reservoir on the San Juan River in north west New Mexico. Also a very productive fishery. - jalichtyExplorerThe North Platte River between Seminoe Reservoir and Casper, Wyoming has some of the best Blue Ribbon Trout fishing in the north american continent. I don't fish it, but have heard reports of the number of trout being way above the number needed to determine that a stream is Blue Ribbon. No campground out that way, but two or three in Casper and it's a fairly short trip to the river. There are a number of river guides that will float you down the river and let you fish as well. Go to the Casper Chamber of Commerce site and take a look.
- Uncle_GrumpyExplorerAs an addition it was 29 degrees here this morning! We will have frost again the first week of August. Gets in the upper 60,s now but will warm up to the 80's next month. Pinedale is 7215 elevation. If you can come during the Rendezvous during the second week of July it would be well worth it. Check out Pinedale.com online.
- Uncle_GrumpyExplorerLots of good trout spots here near Pinedale Wy. The Green River and lots of other rivers and lakes. Lake trout, browns, rainbows and cuthroats. We are in Highline Trails campground in Boulder wy with BIG spaces with grass and great views of the wind river mountains, the largest wilderness in Wy. There are guides and river floats available. Going fishing tomorrow to catch some brookies for supper. My other favorite place is in the Snowies west of Laramie for lots of brookies..

McCall RV Resort, right on the North Fork of the Payette River, ½ mile from the outflow of Payette Lake. Waters Edge RV Park on the same river, only in Cascade and less then 100 yards from the dam on the Cascade Lake. There are many "nice" RV parks in western Idaho, but depending on your definition of "resort style" they may not meet your expectations. We are not upper crust here, just plain folks that enjoy nature......:B
Not looking for 'upper crust' but on our trips we have encountered every extreme ;)
Concrete pad, full hookups with some space between the units is all we need. Will check out McCall.
Breckenridge, CO (Tiger Run) was pretty full last time we looked and I wasn't that impressed by fishing access the last time we visited.
Idaho is looking to be the favorite at the moment. It would be great for everyone if the wild fires around Creede died out this weekend but unfortunately it looks like it's getting worse rather than better. Thoughts with everyone there. - YC_1NomadNorthern Calif. Pick a spot. Incredible lakes and streams.
- DesertHawkExplorerJust shy of Colorado (Don't believe any Fires there Yet), Chama, New Mexico....not real sure how fishing is going these days.
They fish the Rio Chama by the town & down by Heron Lake. Trout in the river & lake plus kokanee salmon at Heron. The Clicky ^ Above has lot of info.
Never been, but it does have Resort in it's name.
Might try Navajo Lake near Bloomfield & the San Juan River. . Fishing Logde
Not sure about a RV Resort around there, just the state park. Not as cool as mountain country as well. ??? - eubankExplorerYou know, it's certainly not all of Colorado that's on fire. And I'd think maybe the Durango area might suit your needs, or maybe up north near Breckenridge or so.
