Indy 500 2014 and Daytona 500 and 200

My wife and I are planning on attending for the first time the Indy 500 and festivities from 5/16/2014 - 5/26/2014. We also plan on the Daytona 500 and 200(Motorcycles) from Feb 14, 2014 - March 16, 2014. We would like full hookups if possible for our 40' Monaco, tow vehicle and Triumph Motorcycle. Any advice concerning Camping, Tickets, where to sit, or anything else from the experienced folks Id sure appreciate it. We're mid-60s and in reasonable shape but no 10ks please!:) Thanks....Tim
  • There IS a full hook up KOA just up the street from the speedway. We stayed there in August for a weekend. I will say, however, I will NEVER stay there again. Facility was dreadful. Go to New Smyrna Beach, or Tamoka State Park in Ormond.
  • Thanks so much BobSallyH. This really helps knowing where to sit at the track. I'll scope out the campground and get my tickets ordered. This fulfills a life long dream to be at Indy in person. Thanks to all my fellow RVers for the advice! Every time I've asked for advice in the forums especially concerning route selection the advice has been spot on. How we ever did things before the Internet is beyond me. I guess AAA and Rand McNally was the way. :)
  • Cant help much on Daytona as we dry parked in the RV parking area at the track and when we weren't working on a team, we just bought from folks that had extra tickets.
  • For years when we went to Indy, our tickets were in "C" Stand, 2nd row from the top. This puts you across from the 33rd pit. We always liked it there. We could see them coming out of turn four and down the front stretch. Also could see quite a bit of pit action. You will not see the entire track from anywhere except from a blimp etc. One of our favorite places. We always used the RV park at the Indiana State Fairgrounds. Took 38th St. into Georgetown Rd. (which runs behind the main grandstand and "C" Stand. Parked in a yard about a mile from our seats. Walked out after the race, back to the truck, and usually within about 45 minutes of getting to the truck we were back a the fairgrounds. It is also a great location to get the parade and really anything going on in Circle City. A few don't care for the area that the fairgrounds is in, but there was never a problem. There are usually some rallys that also use the fairgrounds for the 500. Good Sam/Camping World, Airstream, etc.
  • Thanks so much DutchmenSport and JoeH. I'll scope out the campgrounds you suggested and the seating area.

For Daytona, it looks like you'll be there for Speed weeks and Bike Week. Nothing really close to the track that would be open for the entire duration that has full hookups. The real close in spots are just open for the events.
That being said, I sort of like New Smyrna Beach CG.... will accommodate your rig and pretty easy to get to. It's about20-25 miles to the track, but taking back roads, it's an easy ride. If you want to be in closer, check out International RV park... just a couple miles from the speedway and full hookups.
Seating-- for the bike race, you can just about sit anywhere as the spectators are few for the size of the facility. For the 500, get seats as high up as you can. I like the Weatherly Tower as you get good views of pit road entry
  • White River Campground is a very good contender for your camping needs. It's run by Hamilton County Parks service. It's a very clean, full hook-up, all site asphalt campground. There are two sides to park on, the river side and the pond side. Either side will comfortably park a 40 ft "pusher". We've camped there so many times, we've lost count. There are 2 price rates. Those who live "in county" and those who do not, considering this park is subsidized by local county property tax, it's only fair "in county" residents get a lesser rate. But even with that, their prices are reasonable.

It's located North of Indianapolis, between Cicero and a little hick town called "Strawtown". (Both are North of Noblesville). Check out the link above.

You'll be about 40-50 miles from Speedway in Indianapolis, but I don't think you'll find a nicer campground, unless you go to a state park. The next closest state park is Mounds State Park in Anderson.

There's a little private campground very close to where I live. I've never camped there, but drive right by it all the time. You'd be about 40 - 50 miles from Speedway also. Very easy access to I-69. Glo Wood Campground
