Kay Bailey Hutchinson Convention Center, Dallas, TX

I need a campground from June 23 to June 28 as close to The Kay Bailey Hutchinson convention center in Dallas Texas as possible ... I have a 25 foot travel trailer
  • The traffic heading to the convention center will be "better" coming from the west side of Dallas. DART (bus/rail system) has a pick up sites relative close to the RV park, and should take you pretty close to the convention center
  • Just spent several hours at the Convention Center for granddaughter's HS graduation (takes a long time for 1,200+ kids to cross the stage).

You are going to have to commute to make the event at the Convention Center. Driving not only puts you in the middle of rush hour AM and PM traffic, but will include parking charges of $15 per day at the Convention Center, or at least $10 per day at other area lots.

We normally stay at a COE campground on Lake Lavon. East Fork is the easiest to access, but is only 50A/W sites. Lavonia has 30A/W/S sites, and Clear Lake (open Apr-Sep) has a few 50A/W/S sites and several 30A/W/S sites.

One reason we choose Lake Lavon is easy access to DART rail from Plano or Garland. After the graduation ceremony, taking DART rail back to Plano allowed us to beat the graduate and her friends to Plano by 35 minutes over their driving time.

Hickory Creek COE park on Lake Lewisville is another excellent choice and close to the Denton County connector to DART rail. Current construction on the I-35E bridge over Lake Lewisville is a problem. Also Hickory Creek is closed due to the current floods.

Plantation Place was badly damaged during the Dec 26 tornado, but is repaired and now open. Had some friends there last week.
  • Destiny Dallas RV Resort is located in Corinth Tx, right on Interstate 35E. It is about 20 miles from downtown Dallas. With a little planning, you can drive a short distance, then catch the commuter rail train, to the convention center area.
  • The two above are probably your best bets. Cedar Hill is a little closer but not necessarily any quicker. US67/I-35E are no fun. But neither is any other route into downtown Dallas. A lot of construction going on at the I-35/I-30 interchange. Getting in to and out of the convention center area can be tricky.
  • Cedar Hill State Park is located on FM 1382 and the eastern shore of Joe Pool Lake in Cedar Hill, Texas, ten miles southwest of Dallas. Miles mean nothing in Texas as traffic can be tough
  • The KOA in Arlington/West Ft Worth is 23.4 miles to the west. Nice facility.
Don't know if anything is closer.
    Good luck in your search
