We first saw Country Waye 10 years ago or so as we passed by on a car trip and were so impressed that we stayed last September for several days. It had since become a KOA but it is unlike any other KOA that we've seen or stayed at. Go, you will be impressed.
We were there this past Saturday night. Wonderful campground, very well taken care of. Most sites are larger than what we've experienced at other KOAs. We didn't check out the showers or try the wifi, so can't address those. We were puttering around the Shenandoah Valley/Skyline Drive area w/o reservations and found ourselves near this one late on Saturday afternoon. They had three sites left at the time. Two were premiums and one was a regular site. We chose the regular since we were only staying overnight, and it was more than fine. The premium sites are very nice.
Luray has a nice greenway with lots of parking spots. Access is just a few miles from the campground. And apparently there are lots of restaurants in town.
Can't help you with the KOA, but the Shenandoah River State Park was very nice. It is fairly new, but has great sites and asphalt roads and pea gravel sites. I second Cooters. It is a very neat place for people who grew up in the late 70s!
Years ago we were there before it became a KOA, super well run, clean campground. Reviews are still excellent.
Sites in the 60's offered the best view of National Park Skyline and had good shade. (assuming they haven't changed the site numbers since we were there last)
