Check out Tom Johnsons in Marion as your base camp, and then take your car and do a trip along the Blue Ridge Parkway.
The poster that said you could get to the beach and the mountains in the same day is nuts, unless you are using a jet plain, or unless they plan on making a U turn after they get a cup of coffee at the beach !

You really don't believe I can eat breakfast in Blowing Rock in the morning, and have Britt Donuts at Carolina Beach before supper??? I promise you I can, and do it easily. It's only 5 1/2 driving hours or less from Blowing Rock to Carolina Beach.
You need to go more.
Of course you can make it from the mountains to the beaches and back in one day, but it was rediculous to tell someone that has just moved to Charlotte to do that, and I am guessing that is the point NancyL was trying to make
You can also do it in SC, Georgia, Virginia, Mass, and NH.
Guy
Read the post. (The one you quoted ain't it) I never once suggested the OP do it. I only said it could be done, as NC has many, many things to do and see. And it is possible to see the mountains, and beach in the same day. And it was in response to, and agreeing with another poster. Not sure how rediculous that is.
And I'll repeat; "It is ridiculous" How often do you do it?
Sure if you are a truck driver making a run out there, dropping off your load, and then picking up another and returning.
You need to do it more often so you can actually experience how stupid it is
Guy
Actually. The ridiculous part is you misunderstanding what I said. It appears, to read and understand what you read, Is not your thing.
You keep adding to it. No one, Except YOU. Said anyting about coming back in the same day. But then, I've done that as well. I really don't understand your problem. but it is your's. See Ya.
To the OP, Sorry it got side tracked. Point is, From Charlotte, you have a wide choice of places to go on a Friday afternoon. And one of the best short trips is Kings Mountain.
BTW. The Carolina Campers will be there the 17, 18, & 19th of May. Come on down.
Another great place is Raccoone Holler in Glendale Springs. Full hookups, and quiet. They do have a play ground, and fishing lake. But it's a couple hours from Charlotte up 16. And it's still cool in the mountains.
