- CampinghossExplorer IICozy Acres Campground in Powhatan Va is nice. It is about 20 miles west of Richmond. You can hit 95 in Rocky Mount and stay on 95 in Petersburg. Your gps will take you there easily. It has sites with shelters, picnic tables and patios. Some shelters have glider swings in them. Full hook ups. I think you can be there in three hours. It took us four but we live further east than you.
- 1775ExplorerIt depends on what you are looking for - scenery or sights to visit. American Heritage in Williamsburg, VA has full hookups, paved level sites, a large swimming pool, and is in the middle of the Colonial Williamsburg/Jamestown/Yorktown/Busch Gardens area. Not much for scenery though.
If you want a campground in the middle of the woods in the mountains, the KOA Charlottesville has full hookups, a hiking trail, and a pool. It is a lot more rustic (as is the area). - rjf7gExplorerI live a few miles from http://mistymountaincampresort.com/ - it's a great place to camp. If you like breweries, you are very close to several - check out http://brewridgetrail.com/ - there are even more vineyards in the area. Also, there's a fair bit of history if you're into that, the Appalachian trail passes not too far away, and you are very close to where the Blue Ridge Parkway and Skyline Drive meet. Are you sold yet?
- OaklevelExplorerI know that it is in NC near the VA line but Mayberry Campground in Mt. Airy NC is NC not too far from the BR Parkway. Mt Airy is everything Andy Griffith Near I77 & I74. Very friendly owner & big rig friendly
I too am done with VA State Parks our closest ones are run down , with small sites & high prices........ For what they charge they need a serious upgrade from the ones I have seen. - pinesmanExplorer

A park that is on the top of our list and relatively close to you is North Bend. COE campground on Kerr Lake at the VA/NC border.
It is one of my favorite parks too, but it is not full hookup. - sept1floodExplorerA park that is on the top of our list and relatively close to you is North Bend. COE campground on Kerr Lake at the VA/NC border.
- Community AlumniWe stay at the Fredericksburg KOA several days each year. It's a nice full service campground and is very well managed.

find somewhere other than a Virgina state park. You can get a lot more for your money elsewhere. Virginia State Parks senior officials do not want RVers. Spend your money with those who appreciate you and want your business.
I've enjoyed all my stays at VA state parks. They have a great system.
Lake Anna is a great choice. Don't let the naysayers or those with an ax to grind discourage you.. There is nothing wrong with VA state parks. They may have the best state system in the Mid Atlantic!
