- blknomadExplorerI was really impressed with Mich. and all the things that have been mentioned but they have left out cops and doughnuts and my favorite place the ship wreck museum at white fish point. Hard to believe 6000 known ship wrecks on great lakes. The story of the Big Fitz is worth the visit alone. By the way I'll always remember because my birthday is Nov 10.
- damntoughExplorerAs already mentioned, you could spend several days at the Henry Ford. That complex has Greenfield Village, the Henry Ford museum and an assembly plant tour.
We spend a month every year touring the outer edge of the lower Peninsula. Our favorite towns are Lexington, Port Austin, Tawas, Mackinaw, Petoskey, Traverse City, Ludington, Silver Lake (sleeping bear dunes), Grand Haven and Holland, Saugatuck.
Did I miss any? - the_silverbackExplorerGo up the West side of Mich on US31. too many nice towns to name. Then take M22 just north of Manistee back to US31 at Traverse City and on to the bridge at Mackinaw. In the UP go to Sault Saint Marie Then west on US 2, north to Munising, west to copper harbor. I did not list all the great stops along the way. go to Michigan tourism for details along these routes. Glad you have a month. You will need it!!!!!
- femailyettiExplorerin Da UP Oswalds Bear Ranch, Feed the bears and to some walking around the pins. Buy a t shirt from them, and then when traveling, you can tell people what it is, can be done on the same day as picture Rocks tour. If your young at hart, there is a ten mile or so trail where you can walk right up to the lake side view of the picture rocks. If you like adventure, there are some really good spots to dive of the side of the cliffs, The water is really cold, as my two sons and I have done it my self.
- Not_a_Yurt_ExplorerAdd my vote for Greenfield Village and the Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn. There is something for everyone in the museum -- no exaggeration.
- bigred1cavExplorerFord's Deerborn Village is a must. There is a county or city ark available reasonable and very nice.

Going to spend a month or so "Doing" Michigan this summer and would appreciate any and all ideas of things to see and do in Michigan. Thanks one and all.
There is a whole lot and lots of variety in Michigan. Please give us a hint what you want to do and what kind of range you have.
You can run E-W on I-94 and be in striking range of 7 major museums. That is just one road and we haven't gotten to anything adventuresome yet. You can actually paddle from Lake Huron to Lake Michigan and only portage about 2 miles.
We can kill a weekend here any time and have been at it for 40 years.

Go see both great lakes. :) In south eastern Michigan cross the border into Indiana and there are a bunch of Amish there JUST past the border (2 miles?).
Both Great Lakes? How about THREE Great Lakes! Superior, Huron and Michigan
You both need some geography lessons.
Four Great Lakes - We count Erie.
Matt - DownTheAvenueExplorerGilmore antique car museum close to Kalamazoo, and the Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn and two must see
