- KlbcExplorerMichigander here. You've picked a great place to vacation. My suggestion is to make sure you stop by our welcome center when you enter the state. They have more information brochures than you could ever read and a free map. Our state parks are 1st rate, but might be hard to get into without a reservation. As others have said, there is too much to see and do for a post. You won't be disappointed in anything you decide.
- wa8yxmExplorer IIINot specified are many state parks (Also county and local) including Duns State Park, Lake Michigan State Park, Hartwick Pines State Park and more.. All of which are attractions in and of themselves. www.michigan.gov/dnr for more.
- wa8yxmExplorer IIINow I'm into Music and on the west side of MI, goign north on 131 and running out of freeway and keep on going, you come to both Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp (Where my daughter spent some time) and Interlochen.. Also other attractions, More Museums, Grand Rapids (you have yet to run out of freeway) and more
Going north on I-69 and then US-27 Lansing is the State Capitol. Continuin north you come to Indian River and the Shrine to the only Native American Saint, also the largest wooden crucifix in the world.. Continuing north the BIB MACK (Bridge) and on into the UP. Tahquamenon Falls State Park which is just west of the town of Paradise (you'll be glad you made it) This is (in terms of GPM) #2 behind Niagara but unlike Niagara business has not intruded on the nearly all natural setting,, only the Canoe Livery is within site of the falls.
YOu can get to the falls via a rather long hike (Too long for me any more) or on the private side by the Boat/"Train" ride (there are two nearby)
Continuing all over there are many Waterfalls, and attractions in the UP, Why it's even Christmas there all year long (Name of a town).
Heading back south on I-75 (Well part of US-27 is also I-75) you come to more attractions,, alas.. I don't really do well till you hit Pointiac and could do better there but this leads back to Detroit, and then on down to Toledo (ohio) and the main east west toll road. - wa8yxmExplorer IIIOk, Lower Michigan, I-94 corrorder
Starting at the Indiana line we quickly come into the Three Rivers area.. You are not far from Amish country and the COOK Nuclear power facility.. Some rivers and lakes abouund.
Continuing east to kalamazoo we have an Air Museum and to Jackson and the Space museum, also the Cascades (A man made waterfall).. Also "The Parlor" (Ice cream parlor.. Follow signs for the Cascades, when you see a sign on the side of a building for THE PARLOR turn right, it is at the end of the road.. Another road rusn to the LEFT just past the parlor, this road takes you to the Cascades)
Continuing East we come to Greenfield Village and the Henry Ford Museum.. One of the displays there.. Well it's part of MY childhood.
Oh, and I skipped the Yankee Air Force in Willow Run Airport in Ypsilanti
Detroit also has many attractions Not sure if Ford still has anyhthing to offer, but there is much in the way of the arts, and more Museums.
And that's just the I-94 Corridor.. Continuing East there is Algonac State Park (Park for the night).
Next time I may pick a freeway and drive NORTH. - bobkatmsuExplorerIn south western Michigan, you can visit Holland on down to South Haven all on Lake Michigan. Beautiful quaint little towns that also have light houses.
- Godsey97ExplorerDefinitely do Mackinac. We go every year for the Annual Bridge Walk and stay at Mackicaw Mill Creek (as mentioned above) very, very nice place. Ask for a spot along the lake.
Go to the island and stroll around Mackinac. Take some time to go to the locks. There is an visitor center type thing to learn how it "works" and a schedule of when the ships come through. Take the time to sit in the viewing stand and watch a couple of the transitions.
Henry Ford Museum. - DutchmenSportExplorerYou're asking for a tall order. Why not start here:Click here.
- hankoExplorerTraverse City, from there you can head up the Leelaneu peninsula to seeping bear dunes, visit wine country, beautiful scenic Dr. many fine Rv resorts in and around and the area, my favorite is Traverse bay resort next to the casino. Petoskey is a great place to visit, they have a fantastic state park as long as you don't have a 45 footer. Mackinaw City and the Island are pretty cool. The whole NW side of Michigan is very touristy. Summers are busy. The UP is nice along lake superior, many nice state parks there. The UP is our version Of W Virginia. Down there they are called Hillbilly's, up there they are referred to as Youpers (joking)
- Willow13ExplorerPictured Rocks National Park is awesome. The Pictured Rocks boat cruise was worthy. For those with dogs - they have indoor kennels - bring your own (or purchase there) padlock and your pups can rest there for no charge while you take the cruise on Lake Superior.
- rdnkjeeperExplorerBeing from the UP of Michigan, I strongly recommend the UP! There is so much to see and do up here, you could spend your whole month up here.
