PA/NJ/DE/MD CGs with sites right on a lake or shoreline

I always wanted to get a site right on the water. The closest I came was at Spruce Run State Park in NJ, where the site was fairly close to the shoreline of a reservoir. I'm not talking about a site along a small stream or tiny pond, I mean a full size lake, river, bay or ocean. Any suggestions?
  • I have heard that there are State or County parks out on Long Island that have these types of sites, we have not been out there, so I don't know exactly where to refer you. but could be something for you to look into, if you want to tow your trailer out there...
  • Otter Lake, private campground in PA. private campground lake, smaller size lake, has waterfront sites, you can launch a canoe or kayak from the site.

Worthington State Forest, NJ, some sites along the Delaware River with views (if I remember correctly sites 35, 37, 39 & 40 have some openings in the trees, you can sit at the fire and look over the river. I think 39 is the best view) the rest of them along the river have a good bit of grass area and tree line to the river.

if you want to head a little more north...
North South Lake, NY state park
    Gilbert Lake, NY state park

Assateague State Park and Assateague island National Seashore in MD have sites just over the dune from the ocean. No hookups at the National Seashore, but some sites with electric at the State Park.

Only trouble is that the electric sites are reserved almost a year in advance. Tried to get in this summer with no luck.

Agreed. We were lucky enough to snag a 4-day reservation for early June 2014. Had to call exactly one year to the day in advance (at 8:00 a.m.) and there were only 3 sites left. FWIW the whole electric loop (H loop) is now a pet friendly loop (which I imagine will only make it harder to get a site, but don't give up all hope. Keep checking their site because every now and then a cancellation will open up a date. The hard work to get a site is well worth it!
